Writing Life: Do you know what you're writing about?

article image placeholderwriting life
No matter where you are in the process, you might just be starting out, and this can apply to all forms of art, not just writing, but looking back. What is it that you're really writing about? And are you currently working on a project? And do you feel like you have a sense of what you're writing about?

Let's talk about perspective in our practices and work #writinglife

Sometimes I have to watch the movie twice, but I really have to focus and analyze and watch the movie to break it down into a critical analysis review. I don't know if you know much about film reviews, but there's different styles. My particular style is short form, critical analysis, precise and to the point. And there's a criteria for that

Where do ideas come from?

So I'm not sure if this even answers your question, but I think this is somewhat of an obscure part of writing as to the strange uncovering of ideas that go on to become stories and the mysterious way the writing mind works. So I think it all comes down to this. Your stories need the nourishment of life, which is fed by the everyday things happening all around us. The ideas are all right there, and I think we just need to kind of catch them and put them out there

@NealD Does writing ever get boring? How do we keep challenging ourselves?

Like, when you get better at your craft. Have you ever had a moment where you're like, I'm kind of bored. Like, I know what I'm doing now. I know I'm good at it. Yeah. Has it ever become boring? The more you do it and the better you get at it. And then you have to create new challenges for yourself in some ways

@Ramya How do you keep it interesting?

Ramia. I love that you brought up the mystery of writing. I think that's partially why I'm addicted to it, and I can't stop because that uncertainty and the mystery just endlessly enjoyable to me, even when it's really frustrating and annoying and hard. And I think it kind of plays into my initial question because I think it's so strange that we can be writing about something or sort of working through a problem in our writing for years without being fully aware of it or understanding

Every time I read a new review, every time I watch a new film, I'm learning I'm gaining an insight to someone's screenplay, someone's story, and it's just I'll never lose that enthusiasm for it
