The Covid Creativity Crisis - Where's the spark?

article image placeholderThe creativity crisis
For those of us who feel compelled to express ourselves through the written word, the process of writing was hard enough, and then the pandemic struck and made things all the more worse. So I think last year was pretty probably the least productive for me in terms of my writing goals. But I'm at least thankful that I managed to stay on track with my reading

Not what I expected

It's about accepting that you're grieving about taking a break from social media, being kind to yourself journaling. And I think these are all things that are essential, but I don't think are often associated with being a solution to writer's block or a creative block in general. It's sort of this new approach to treat yourself as a person rather than just a creator. When you're trying to be a creator, it's interesting and really helpful. Thank you

Thank you, Liora

Yes, Leora. As you said during these trying times, plowing on or just pushing ourselves wouldn't really help. I guess we need to learn to be kind to ourselves, too. I'm glad you found the article helpful. Thank you for reading it

@archanasarat

So the point you made about being kind to yourself and allowing yourself to be grieve and take our own time and getting out of this writing rut was something that I found to be very helpful. So thank you so much for writing this

What do you mean by that? I'm trying to think some people have had it rougher in that their ability to block out the social media, block out the news like this article says, restrict news once a day, restrict social media and all of that. Some people just have trouble with that. Some people are extroverts and they need people, and without that, they find themselves floundering in grief, as this article says. And then you have people, the introverts

Hey Ramyya, thank you for this article. At the heart of it, I think it's a deeper issue that we all encountered during the pandemic. And as Shana puts it, it hasn't really been a conducive environment for anything creative that would require imaginative and out of the box thinking. Why? Probably because of the uncertainty. The world had a problem which did not seem to have an immediate solution at hand

@archanasarat Thank you!

And so to be grieving and then also struggling with my writing was really hard for me. And reading Man's search for meaning was such a reminder that we always have a choice of how we will respond and what actions we will take. And that doesn't mean that you can't have your time of darkness, which I think is required for healing to happen. But that there will come a time again where you have the energy to figure out how to make something terrible and the grieving process into meaning
