Log rolling is the slang term for it, but at the very worst, you'd have to call that a crude kind of barter. I have written because it fulfilled me. Maybe it paid off the mortgage on the house and got the kids through College, but those things were on the side. I did it for the buzz. I did it for the pure joy of the thing. And if you can do it for joy, you can do it forever
It does take a whole lot of hard work and perhaps as much luck to make a career out of it. And I bet that money isn't the top priority for most of the writers out there. But not that money making isn't on their list. I mean, what writer doesn't dream of getting that liberated book deal or becoming the next big best seller
And thank you for bringing that publishing paidme hashtag. I remember how it trended a while ago on Twitter when authors colored authors started sharing their advances and their royalties based on their copies sold and all of that and highlighted the pay inequality between black and non black writers and to a certain extent, the male versus female disparity as well in the publishing industry. So while I wasn't all that surprised by the disparities that were revealed, I was shocked and hurt when I saw how deep it went

I think whatever my personal thing is, should writers get paid? Well, absolutely. Should women writers get paid equal to men? Yeah. Absolutely. Should black writers get paid equal to white writers? Absolutely. But that's not the world we live in. But I just feel that, as Stephen King said, would you write even if you didn't get paid for it? Yeah. Absolutely. He enjoys the craft. And that's why he writes
Hey, Shahnaz, thanks for sharing about the Own Voices book. I really wasn't aware of it, so I looked it up and it was very interesting to know that, you know, this category or the Hassle hashtag was a spin off from the controversy that surrounded American dirt. As for American dirt, I haven't read the book because I don't know. I think I totally got put off by all the controversy around it that I didn't even want to try it out

I mean, you have people writing about LGBTQI and they're not there. They're straight. So now is the LGBTQI community going to come after us and say, you have a sexually diverse character? Sorry, you can't do that. You really don't know what that feels like? I don't know. Anyway, those are my thoughts. We have really gone off the beaten path with writing for money or writing. Or just because writing for pleasure
