Wendy Carlos: A Brilliant Film Score Composer

article image placeholderwendycarlos
I am very excited to share about a woman in history who I only learned about just yesterday and that woman is Wendy Carlos, and she is an amazing American musician and composer who is best known primarily for electronic music and film scores. She was born and raised in Rhode Island in 1939 and is actually still alive today. Hey, Wendy, how are you doing, girl? And it's just incredible having learned about her because she created the soundtracks for My Dog is really excited about it too

A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, & Tron! Also, a trans icon. #film #music #translivesmatter

I am so excited to learn about her and the Moog. I mean, I had one. And I also have a thermometer and I have all those wacky, 1970s, weird, wonderful sound makers. And I can't believe the work she did. And why didn't it? And I know her name. And that's a conversation, right? That's a conversation because we know so many names. And I did not know her

I'm learning more and more about them every single day. And we're getting to hear more about this particular individual because conversations like this are happening a lot more. And in the past, maybe we didn't really learn about Wendy Carlos, particularly because she was so outspoken about those trans issues. That's just how I sort of would interpret it, because I've never heard of Wendy Carlos up until now. And those are some pretty big film

I have to link a section of her website that is her letters that contains her letters. Of all these people that have been writing to her for many, many years. I think the last entry that was like in the 90s, but she's super geeky and super amazing and super knowledgeable. It's like there needs to be a film about her. I think to our plates, let's do a film about Wendy Carlos

@DBPardes Yes! I want a biopic.

Deb I had the exact same idea. I want to see the Wendy Carlos biopic. Maybe I'll just have to make it. Or if you know, someone closer to being able to make a feature film by a pickup Wendy Carlos, let me know because I completely agree with you. Just even from the little that I've read in interviews with her and everything, someone that I definitely want to keep knowing more about and see their story come to life in a really big way

Wow. Well, thanks for the invite. Bowie. I was not aware of this intelligent woman's work. Quite a resume. Those are pretty steep films, especially Clockwork Orange. So, yeah, what a talented lady. I will read up on her. I also love film composers. I think it adds such an element to the film. It's just such an important part of a film. Sometimes it can even make or break a film. Just the soundtrack

@NealD Film Score Composers

Hey, Neil. Yeah. Thanks for listening and being open to learning more about her. I thought you'd appreciate that. And hearing your response actually made me realize the older I get and the more I appreciate films that I have loved for a long time and continue to discover new ones. I definitely have a deeper and deeper appreciation for composers and film scores and just how big of an impact they can make on a film
