Musings on writing, editing and authenticity ๐ŸŒผ

But then I can bash out an article in like 15 minutes, do a really quick edit, send it off, and it will be a really big success. And it makes you think that maybe when we're writing, we overthink things, we overedit things and because of our own preconceptions about our work, we actually maybe even take out what's valuable for the reader during that writing process. Obviously, editing is always required to a certain degree for grammar and whatever

And if it isn't that, then I get really discouraged. So if you are finding that your articles, when they're just sort of written spontaneously, do, well, then I would say lean into that because I think that just speaks to the fact that your voice, when it's raw and new and unfiltered, is appealing to people. And I think that's a great thing. You should use that to your advantage

Perfectionism

And on the subject of poetry, I've tried writing poetry a few times in my life. I've had some success, but I think in poetry, particularly what holds me back is this idea of perfectionism because I get so much like poem envy. I read people's work, and I'm like, wow, I could never write something like that. And I tried so hard to kind of replicate something something or produce something amazing that has stopped me from trying all together

Perfectionism & poetry

Just write whatever you want to write and call it a poem, because if you call it a poem, it is a poem. And if it's coming from you, then it's valid. And like with anything, it takes work. It takes practice. And if you really want to keep up with it, then you just got to make yourself. But it sounds to me like people do value what you have to say
