Explorations with Math with young kids

I would say takeaways that have been meaningful in their own way, and to me that's the journey of maths that I've been on with my kids and I have been enjoying it, and I found it rewarding for myself, not just for my kids

And I have noticed that strong base has been extremely helpful for her as she has grown up for her to lean on. And there is a general sense of trying to understand everything from first principles. So for those people who consider themselves as not great teachers or people like myself, maybe one of the things I would recommend is there are a lot of good apps that engage your kid in the right way and also present some of those monetary aspects interactively

Hi. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and views on how you've explored math concepts with your kids at home. I'd like to add in. I thought as well that has always been a scary and difficult kind of subject for me as a kid, and I probably attributed to the fact that I never really got those basics right. Perhaps it was just me or the way it was taught at school

And similar Shami to what you said, which is using manipulatives at the young ages, are a phenomenal way of making some of those abstract concepts more concrete. And we do that whether you do that with fingers at the RDS or as you mentioned, with carryovers, and you can use different manipulatives to do that. I think those are great tools. And the similarly thing as Rami you mentioned, I think as parents, one of the things we can do is introduce math in many different places

This was just a fabulous conversation that, you know, I just loved every moment of this conversation. I just wanted to add that because your last point about building confidence in math is absolutely critical, especially for some reason when it comes to math, I believe it's absolutely critical. And when the child feels that they're good at it, then they really become excellent at it

But today, thankfully, the methodologies are so much more evolved and there is an effort to make sure the fundamental concepts are etched in the child's mind. My son, who is a fifth grader, thankfully loves the subject and all credit to his teachers who have made it a real effort to make it as interesting as possible to him
