Why did YOU start a podcast?

article image placeholderUploaded by @PodcastVSPlayer
Welcome to another swell on this dreary Thursday morning. Not sure what the weather is like, where you guys are, but it's mighty bleak here. Basically what I want to know is why did you guys decide to do a podcast? I was going through some old stuff the other day and it got me thinking, why did we start this? And I guess for me and Dan, it was a means to make content together again. We'd done stuff through TG Radar and Tech Beaver

I think had Covent not happened, I think eventually I would have gotten my podcast going but I think that just pushed me when it cut off everything cut off that income and that show that I did every week and I've been working for these people for four years and just got rid of it. It almost forced me to go, okay, now let's do it. Plus you're inside and the worst world is changing. Nobody knew what was going on

And every month I'd gather people and we'd have some really cool exchanges with people who are experts in the field. Not competitive, but more like complimentary. Really weird choice guests like a mortician and a cremation guy. Same feel, different actions, aromatherapist and an ear, nose and throat doctor. I think the reason I started a podcast is because I wanted to interview interesting people. That was the first thing, but the second layer of that was creating a show that was live

And it does add a different element to it because when I wanted to come up with this particular podcast, my main one, I was thinking about people and I was thinking about connections, and I was thinking about stories and how we meet so many different people from all walks of life and all experiences, both good and bad and jobs, and they all have something to say. And I thought to myself, you know what?

Hey, Brandon, when I was listening to you. You reminded me of two of my favorite guys. That never talked to anybody else but themselves. Spalding Gray and Eric Begotten. Eric Begojan was in a was in a really cool play called Talk Radio. And Spaulding Gray, of course, versus the great Orator who passed away. If you don't know them, look up both of those guys. Eric Bogosian and Spalding Gray. They're like the epitome of they don't need anybody

Hey, let's just say I need to be more aware of those guys. I am aware, but not enough. So I'm already going to take this as a massive compliment. So I'm going to definitely do my research on them and check them out. Names have popped up in conversations over the years. So I feel like it's a sign that I need to go definitely investigate. Or research maybe investigate is not the right word

Not a great deal of preparation went on and as it's gone on I do think we have got increasingly better and there are obvious kind of like upgrades and stuff. So not just equipment but just to the shows in general. So having sponsored content up in the episode, obviously we need to be a bit more professional

But I don't think people realize like, they just think, oh, you just talked a bunch. They don't realize what goes into it. Some of those episodes came out one take, we're good to go. Others, because of the sponsored content, I had to make sure that things were working. So something I might be able to get away with on another show or another episode, I couldn't

Then you just have some straight talk that you feel like someone's just rambling and then you have all that stuff in the middle. It's really I think it's important to know what your style is before you start answering to sponsors and what they're expecting you to do. And most of them fall in love with you as is, and they don't expect you to change. But some of them may have some different kinds of standards

@DBPardes

Yeah, I think you said it, too. When it's it is about style and what works on one show or podcast or with one particular individual or a group of individuals is not going to work for the other. It's what that's the tone. I've heard some shows where their tone is supposed to be very laid back, relaxed, nothing scripted. But yet it sure feels that way

So coming on here, I thought it would be something thing of a challenge as well as to meet new people and hear the voices and comments of others not just of myself, but of people that want to be able to have their voice heard as well

So one, it's an area of passion for mine. I love filmmaking and I love movies. It's basically an excuse to send myself back to film school for free. Two, I think we're bringing something different to the table and something of value. I think people learn, but it's also obviously entertaining. And I think the different points of view that you have on there

I am so grateful to be here. I just found swell like today and I am jumping in wholeheartedly to see what this experience is about. More to come with a live link for my podcast because of course that part isn't done yet. I just know that is going to be launching on June 1. I hope everyone is great. You are having an incredible experience today and you are enjoying everything that your life has to show to you. I hope I get to talk to you soon. Later

We highlight books that have local artists or artists within our community who do the artwork is associated that kind of thing, but it's all about mission. The idea. Ultimately, everything we do is related to the idea of documenting and offering a legacy to that printed word and making sure that it's available, and then placing that in the hands of the audience that's intended, which ultimately will be the youth as delivered by the people that we build in our network
