Where Does Shame Live Inside Our Bodies?

article image placeholderBrene Brown on Shame
And I thought it would be really cool to have a conversation with somebody who's in intimate conversations with people every day. Dr. Jody Larry is a naturopathic doctor and she's focused on deep hole wellness. And she's the founder of Ritual and she works with people specifically around Renee Brown teaching. So I'm really excited. Jody, welcome to Swell, and I'm excited to talk with you about this topic

Kicking this off with Dr. Jodi Larry #brenebrown https://s.swell.life/SSwJ3pmz2FdXg5u @Drj

And by the way, this is a conversation for everyone to join. This is an issue that we all can relate to. So looking forward to hearing your voices

Wow. Candle. You're thinking about this, like, physiology of shame. I relate it to the flush one feels when we were embarrassed, how our faces get red. And that's like a complete physical reality action to a version of Shane, right. I actually never thought about the connection there, but that's a huge physical feeling. I'm sure Dr. Jodi is going to have thoughts about this because she's a naturopathic doctor. She deals with the body. She's in traveling mode

Ashamed of laughing???

Just like for the h*** of enjoying oneself for being disruptively. Joyful right there's. Shame in that. What the heck is up with that? Forget about all the things we can be shame of. We are literally a society that's ashamed of laughing. What's up with that

Physical manifestation of my internal stress

But when I don't have that, like when I had to leave my husband at a place, I didn't want to leave him for three days and knew I wasn't going to be able to talk to him for three days. I was walking to my friend's car, and I kid you not. My legs almost went out from under me. Like, I almost couldn't

But it's a trip because I grew up the type of kid where, like I always say, my father would have to grab me by the back of my collar because I was the type of kid that would run around and hug everybody. And I grew up that way, and I felt like even raising my sons, I don't want them to feel like they're bad. And then I got older and realized that there are bad people that you actually have to stay away from

And there was a time when I felt like garbage, you know what I mean? I felt like garbage. It was a time when, after the divorce and she got a new boyfriend that I felt like, you know what, I'm just going to take a step back, because you know what? He's got a family now. He doesn't need me. And it was totally insane, and you got to be in a really crazy place to be there
