Cinematic experiences in games. Is it going too far?

I just started playing Forbidden West, and I encountered this, and I was curious to know how you felt about it because I know other people will have opinions as well, but I started the game and no spoilers or anything, but there's a lot of exposition. It takes quite a bit for you to actually get into sort of the customization and the world building. I mean, the open world experience that that game was really known for. And for me, I didn't dislike it

Where to start with Still Loading? Any favorite episodes?

Would you recommend I start the first episode of the most recent or is there a standout episode of the show that you particularly enjoy or think is a cut above in quality or anything like that? Because sometimes I'm tempted with shows like this to dive right into like my favorite game that they've covered. But I'm curious what you think. For a new listener, I should be starting with really

Welcome to Swell

I'm still kind of in awe of my console, but I just want to hear your take on some of these acquisitions that are gaming to be happening. There's a rumor that Sony is going to retaliate by buying out Ubisoft and EA gaming and stuff like that. I just want to know how you feel about this. I'm again, welcome to the Swell verse

@Taylor Cinematics in games, a fine line to walk

And therefore you should do your best to tell the story through gameplay and not necessarily through exposition front loaded at the beginning of the game or long cutscenes. Games that do this well, that are able to tell stories through gameplay would be like BioShock, where you don't know what happened to the underwater city of Rapture at the beginning of the game. But as you play through, you find audio logs and you're able to piece together what happened to this underwater city

@BrayBray Some of my favorite episodes!

I really enjoyed that one. And yeah, I mean, there's probably a bunch of others over the course of 2020. Over the summer of that, I did a series called The Summer of PS Two where I every week was a different PS Two game. So that might have a nice eclectic blend of like crazy games that you might be interested in because some of them are like we go from GTA to Dragon Ball Z Buddha Kai to Shadow the Colossus

@Ram Activision Blizzard and Microsoft may be too big

But it's 50 50 because I think Microsoft is actually doing a lot of good things in the gaming industry right now. But I don't like the idea of this basically developer arms race that's happening between Sony and Microsoft right now where they're just escalating and buying up more and more game developers to entice people to come over to their platforms. And I'm not sure if I like that. With that said, I don't know. I really don't know. I'm Loading towards

Closing eShops and game preservation…your thoughts?

And Nintendo lobbies, along with other companies as well to keep them out of libraries. And some of these companies have sort of shown an unwillingness, in my view, to commit to making these games available to historians, to preservationists. So I'm curious what you think about all that and sort of what fans can do to help make sure these games don't sort of get lost to time. Certainly, I think the podcasts element here helps

@BrayBray This is a long one just a heads up 😅

It's not driven by any one company. And only in the last couple of years has there been a real push by the public at large, because largely in efforts to Frank Salty over the Video Game History Foundation and like the Strong Museum up in New York and the National Museum over down in Texas, like, and I think there's one over in the UK as well that I don't remember the name of. But there's just a lot of stuff that's happening out there now

What Made You Start Your Podcast? #ama #videogame #podcast @stillloadingpod

Hi Still Loading. I am an avid supporter of your podcast and I was hoping you could share with us why you started podcasts to begin with. Why did you choose video games out of all the topics that you've could have explored on the podcasting world? Why did you choose this path and has that motivation changed over the time that you have been podcasting? Do you podcasts for different reasons now than we did back when you started? Thank you so much. Love listening to you

@winniethewho I love sharing a conversation with someone new

And I've met a lot of amazing people through the podcast and I'm very grateful for that. So the motivation now has been more or less not just because I like talking about video games

New Episode

To anybody just checking out this AMA after the fact. Just figure that, you know, a new episode of the podcast just dropped literally ten minutes ago as of this posting. And it's all about Captain and the Game Master. I mentioned it in a previous of this week. But yeah. Newest episode of my Captain and rewatch podcasts is out right now. Season one, episode ten
