Recommendations for African American Museum in DC

article image placeholderUploaded by @kimestryarts
So what I decided to do was rather than trying to see the entire Museum again in an hour and a half, I just wanted to experience something really cool for that hour and a half and I chose to only visit one floor of the Museum. Now, if you've never been to the Museum, understand that it goes through the entire history of African Americans in the continent of the United States and the diaspora. So it begins with slavery and goes on from there. And it has several floors

Nmaahc.si.edu Artwork by Bisa Butler, I Go To Prepare A Place for You

The artwork pictured here is by Bisa Butler. And this is a photo. I'm sorry, not a photo, but actually a quilt of Harriet Tubman called I go to Prepare a place for you

Because I know that is something I want to experience just as the structure of the Museum. Bees work is beautiful, by the way. Thank you for that. I was just Googling the Museum and trying to go to that page. I'm going to put the link here to the Museum for anybody who's just thinking about the trip and wants to know how to structure it. But it's just so funny

Even if it's a historical Museum, there's always some kind of creation, some kind of art there that is just so beautiful. And it symbolizes so much, too, because you can learn about the people and the events and the places, what happened. But when you see the art, it's like this is what was created by someone. From that time, it feels like more of like a connecting experience. But yeah. Thank you for sharing

Hey, Debra. Yeah. The first time I went, I did it the way it was intended, starting in the basement and going all the way to the top floor. And you do feel that feeling of transcendence. I actually don't remember, though, going I don't remember seeing the artwork, so I don't know if we were just limited on time. I think we ended up going up to maybe the second or third floor. And I think the artwork was on the fourth floor

I love what you said about it being a connecting experience. I agree. You know, the experience of being a human being is very similar across cultures in terms of what we go through and what our aspirations are. And there art, subtle cultural differences, some subtle, some not so subtle. But the overall universal experience of being a human being is what should connect us all if we let it. And I think art is a great way to speak to that
