What words I overuse- Basically I am essentially telling you my words

article image placeholderUploaded by @Binati_Sheth
Oh, this is the question for me. What word of phrase do I overuse? So basically I say basically a lot. I don't know why. Basically and essentially are two words that I just slip in conversation. I know that I'm not doing it on purpose. It just happens. And I have no explanation for why that happens. I have been trying to be conscious about my use of basically and essentially, but I slip into it

So if I were to leave out exclamations like and Ah which are my Goto crutch words or filler words, there are a few other words that I tend to overuse and they are generally honestly and like. I am extremely super aware that I'm doing this, but somehow I have found it very hard to kick the habit. And the only reason that I can think of is that I'm sure that is the case with others as well is that our thoughts run way more faster than our articulation

So you're absolutely right. The thoughts go faster than the speech. And that's where we fall on the crutch of these words. And I never thought of it that way, but it makes perfect sense. Plus, the thing that you mentioned about pauses, what I've observed of people who are media trained or they have received media training, they do just that. They pause at the perfect moments

I'm sure it must be bothering the listeners though, but it's nice to be alert to this and try and look for other words to sort of expand your vocabulary. But otherwise I'm not very much concerned by it. But definitely again, it's very amusing. Thanks for this post and also love listening to Ramya's reply

As one of your listeners, I can assuredly tell you there is a beautiful cadence to the way you talk. And to me, that's ultimately the point when people focus on what we are saying rather than how we are saying stuff. I think we have one at conversation and communication. So there's that. I absolutely love listening to you. And same applies to all Ask Swell that I've been interacting with off late

Binathi, thank you so much for your encouraging words and I am also in awe of your mastery over so many varied subjects. Tells me how much of an avid reader you are. And you know know your style of communicating and expressing what you have read, what you have understood, simplifying it, bringing your points of view across to your listener. It's just amazing. Hats off to you too, and look forward to such lovely conversations. Deep, meaningful conversations with you
