Have Youth Sports gone too far? Coach shot during 9 year olds game

article image placeholderMan fatally shot during youth football game near Dallas
And that really means something needs to change. We need to change this today. As I mentioned, I was coaching and been involved in youth sports for the past 15 years. And when I started, the focus was a lot like it was when I was a kid. We're teaching work ethic, we're teaching lifelong lessons that will transcend past any kind of youth sport here. And we're teaching sportsmanship. And that means setting a good example in front of the kids and being a good sport

Thank you so much for bringing some attention to this. I actually had not heard about this yet. I agree with you. This is absolutely horrific. And I really do think that I have also seen, you know, I'm pretty young, I'm 21, but I feel that even in from the time that I was in youth sports to what I see right now today, it does feel like there's been a huge shift. I agree

It's so upsetting. And I love your sort of vision of this building an ecosystem of dialogue where we are constantly checking in with each other and our kids to make sure we're just showing up, like, with our A game. Our A game for respect, for compassion, for the curiosity of what's working, what isn't, but to have this be what it is. And, Phil, I so appreciate your restraint in the reporting of this

Hi. Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm an educator, and I'm not surprised by this story at all. I think it's going to get worse, and we're going to hear more and more stories like this before we hear less. I think it's going to get increasingly bad, and it's unfortunate, but yeah. Thank you for sharing this with us

And so you see all this money spent on personal pitching lessons or hitting lessons or personal training, and there's this expectation that the kids should be playing more. I've seen it firsthand where parents are openly rooting against other teammates of their kids so that it benefits their kids in the future. They'll get more pitching innings. I've seen them count pitching innings. I've seen them count minutes on basketball courts and saying, hey, my kid is not playing as much

You think about the fact that if those things are present, the chances of things going wrong obviously go up. It's like every time you get in a car, you're risking getting in an accident. If you never go in a car, you're never going to get in a car accident. It's kind of simple. Two plus two equals four. But personal freedom and civil liberties and all that stuff have come into question. It's just unnecessary death

But at this point, it looks like former Broncos corner Keith Phillip was the one who started the fight and his brother was the one who shot the opposing coach. Unfortunately, I think that the opposing coach has made a good point. I've read a couple of articles where they said that Akib was the one person in that situation who had the power to cool it all down, and he was the one who amplified it by throwing the first punch of the fight
