I GO TO THE MOUNTAINS TO GET HIGH

article image placeholderUploaded by @DBPardes
So Iiiiiiiiiii go to the mountains to to elevate to get up outside of the ground that I walk on on a daily basis and touch the sky and touch a different ground, a ground that's filled with little critters and little chipmunks and little unseen insects. I go there to get perspective. I go there to take a big, deep breath. And this weekend I did that. And thanks to my friends Holly and Luke for inviting me

View

I don't know views. You a sense of breath and space and depth, and you're not so crammed into something that defines you. I think views give you a sense of like, oh, there's something out there that's really big and best. So here's the view from the cabin

Here's a recipe for The New York Times version of a grilled cheese, which has kimchi in it. And it's made on Lodgebread, which is a beautiful bakery here in Los Angeles. And it's got a couple of different kinds of cheeses. And then just kimchi, which is this beautiful Korean pickle old cabbage salad. And it gets all hot and delicious. And it just kicks your a** a little bit because of spice. And it's wonderful

Ode to hiking

And then there's the hike. You got to go on a hike, right? You gotta can't fit on your a** the whole time. You have to get up and move. And hiking is not about endurance. It's not about rushing. It's the opposite. It's about going at your pace that you're really looking and seeing and smelling and feeling the world around you

Like, if you just close your eyes and open them real fast and you pretend that you're not looking at a tree, they look like they could be on the ground and 12ft long. So here's the beauty shot of one that was just right near my nose

Every once in a while on trails that are pretty trafficked. You see this, and it's so moving. It's a little pine tree, but someone has put rocks around the base of it to identify it as a little sprout coming up, but that we shouldn't step on it. And it's just so beautiful that someone took a moment, put rocks there and said, wait, this is like new growth. It's so precious

But you can describe any kind of meaning if you want because it's kind of like we're shaking that way. So here's a shot I'll of what I found. And here's the link

Spring

So signs of spring are everywhere, and little buds are popping out, and there's nothing more cute and beautiful than little buds on big trees. And it just gives you a sense of like, oh, my God, this is always going to happen. There's always going to be rebirth. And it's like, Yum. And you just get up close and you're like, come on in. We need you. And this is a snap of little

Nestled…

I want to wrap this up with an image of these two little chairs that are perched on the property that Luke and Holly own. And it's just the perfect place to sit and do nothing. Nothing. Which is what I really want to get good at. Holly Luke, thank you so much again for inviting me. And it was just so beautiful. And here's to just sitting and hiking and being in places that elevate all of us. I hope you enjoyed this

And I guess there are trails and hikes that you can take. So it's really good to know that I don't have to go too far to do that. Usually I go upstate New York and stay with friends who live there and get to go on bigger hikes. But it's nice to be able to just take a train, a short train bus ride to get to this park. And yeah, nature is definitely where I go to connect
