Inspiration from the book Range

article image placeholderUploaded by @DrSpMishra
Hello everyone. This is my second spell. This is inspired by this book called The Range, written by David Epstein. This particular quote, which I have put in as a creative here is quite profound. I found it very profound. Essentially what it means that the wide range of things which we can learn from early in life will create a mental model, the abstract mental model for different things. And those can be later on used in the life for situations for which we do not know right now

Learning widely across many things early in life a great boon for personal development and create abstract mental models for future applications.

I'll definitely give this book a read because this is precisely what we try to accomplish when we talk about critical thinking at the MBA level in business schools. In any technical program, the emphasis is on giving students transferable skills that they can transfer to unfamiliar situations. So this is a very clear emphasis in Western education, west and formal education. And definitely I'll give this book a read. Thank you very much for pointing it out. Thank you, sir. Bye

So western education really understands the importance of abstract mental models which can be adapted to various situations. And the entire business school education model in the west is predicated upon this line of court, which is why they heavily rely on case studies. Harvard is famous for its case studies. My alma mater, western university Canada, Richard Ivy business school produces a lot of case studies in Seattle business school produces a lot of case studies

@ICareerCentre Implications for AGI?

You tell me if it touches upon that aspect or if you know of anything specific from this book. I would love to hear what the implications are from the theories presented in this book to AI research

The underlying concept which this book is trying to really talk about is to really expand the range of knowledge and activity and it also gives a lot of insight on the need of having specialization on a particular field and also a range on different fields and how a team of very specialized people and generalists can actually walk together and create new developments. Inventions. Innovations in future. I mean they have done it in the past and obviously that template is true even today

And if there are models that are kind of more generalistic nature and they put different specialized expert models together, that might be a way to kind of build that kind of ali together. So it will be interesting. But thank you for sharing and thanks for starting this conversation as well. It's to kind of learn about this
