Buy Nothing Day

article image placeholderBuy Nothing Day
Since 1992, I've been observing International Buy Nothing Day. Now, in most of the world is the last Saturday in November. However, in the United States, it coincides with the Friday after Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday. Yes, that's intentional. A protest against consumerism is scheduled on the same day as the biggest shopping day of the year

in the United States, this anti-consumerism observance falls on Black Friday #mindfulness #capitalism #culturejamming

Local restaurants and charities

I'm really dreading that, but that'll be about it. That's my buy Nothing day. Unfortunately, I have to buy the printer ink, but I'll be supporting local restaurants

Adbusters!

Hi Tim. I wanted to thank you for this post today because it really is appropriate even for people who are very conscious, like myself, can easily get swept up in materialism. I'm not one of those people who lines up. I'm all person, so that's never going to be my style. I do define myself as a consumer who is extremely rigorous about what I'm buying, why I'm buying it, where it's from, how it's made as much as possible

I love it. I also participated but didn't know it and it's nice to see a community or you being social about it and making a connection and I totally feel and support you on this. I would love every holiday to be celebrated for the truth. The truth is Black Friday is a made up holiday just for money and it really takes away from the season the way the focus is not on the birth of Jesus
