Revisiting a song I thought I never wanted to hear again

article image placeholderTHE 44TH ANNUAL KENNEDY CENTER HONORS | Brittany Howard and Herbie Hancock Performance
This was part of the 44th Kennedy Centers Honors for lifetime achievement in the arts, and Joni Mitchell was one of the awardees being honored, and the performance by Herbie Hancock and Brittany Howard just was stunning. And I'm leaving the link here to the YouTube clip. I grew up hearing both sides now as an easy listing tune because of Judy Collins chart topping performance of it from 1969. My mother had that Judy Collins album, and then my mother also had a Neil Diamonds version

@Tim Memory lane ♥️

Thank you, Tim, for this. Well, and yes, I categorically almost never. I'm singing the right words to songs. I don't know what I hear, but it's generally not got the words. And I discovered this when I am saying the words out loud with people who have magical ears and they can hear the words. It's so like, annoying. So, yeah, I definitely do hear songs. I'm like, oh, is that what they're saying?

The profound power of her words resonate with her in such a different way now, because she has seen love from both sides now and life from both sides now in a whole different ways, in a whole different regard, because decades have passed since she wrote that song at such a young age with such a wise soul. I'm going to link her Spotify song here. I can't stop listening to this ever when I go start listening, so I'm not going to do that

Hey Tim, I might fall in that category of under 40 where I'm not as familiar with the song, but I do understand what you mean with regards to when a specific artist sings a song and it has a different meaning or a different connotation at the Tim time really resonates with you

I ❤️ this song!

So I just wanted to say, I love this song, and I think I can't listen to it too much because I find it very moving. It might bring me to tears. And that might have a lot to do with the film Love, actually. Anyway, thank you so much

@Diva007 two confessions

I think it is because Judy Collins has a very distinctive voice, and I think her version of this song was just overplayed in my house as a young person. So I agree it is a beautiful song and the particular recording of it that I grew up listening to, I was done with and never wanted to hear it again. I actually think it might have only been this year that I actually ever heard Joni Mitchell sing it
