Alter Thought: Failure

article image placeholderA Third Oddly Weird Learner Co-Creation
And during such extreme level of suffering, I used to get one phone call a week, and I remember calling my Nana just to cry. I thought I was a failure. I thought I had let down every person who believed in me. I had failed every physical training test leading to the last. But all these attempts were mile markers in my improvement and my redevelopment, I was building up to be a better version, a newer but foreign Brooklyn boy

Fail hard and often then WIN.

But leaving your body and not even that you were weak. But the idea that you were weak, just leaving your body, that's what that process sounds like. And like with failure, I say to myself and sometimes people and I'm like, joking, but I'm also very serious. I'm like, I fail every day, like every day I fail. But in some moments within that day, I get some wins. And I love a come up story

Failing to plan to fail.

Thank you for your response. Yeah. In the military, there was a lot of phrases that were super toxic, but they took you to an extreme place in your mind that made you feel invincible. I should probably do a forecast on just going through these phrases, but when I think in retrospect, it's silly, but in the moment, it made all the sense in the world, things like, failure to plan is planning to fail

Yes. Yes. Failure is to learn. It's learning. Yeah. Like we give words, words, all these negative connotations, and we then connect with it. We then let it become part of our identity. Like, I'm a failure. I'm not good enough, right? So, yeah, this here and just seeing how failure is a will to push forward. As you mentioned, Aaron, that's exactly what it is when we're learning

Wow

But when you do things that are like, when you fail and then you try again, or you're just like, oh, my God. You just get into this moment where it's like, it allows your mind and allows your body to express itself and to say, okay, this is failure. But this is how or this is who I'm going to become. And this is what I'm going to do because of this. I appreciate this. Thank you

"Failure is movement." -@LaTaina

Latina. We are honored for you to join this dialogue. And such an amazingly deep, reflective response you provided and contributed to the dialogue. Thank you. I agree. I love how you put it into your own words. It definitely demonstrates that you're thinking through this and you understand it. And I think that's it's the most important part. Wow. Thank you. Failure is movement. That was my biggest takeaway. Thank you so much
