Is the death of a high profile politician enough to warrant a celebration of their professional accomplishments?

Is someone's death, the death of a high profile individual enough to merit this sort of almost revisionism to their story and the way that they have been talked about by certain groups of people, obviously, Colon Powell is a celebrated individual amongst the GOP and a lot of the right. And they're going to talk about him in a very specific way

Mortality makes us pause

So it's hard. It's hard to square up everything that you feel in these moments. And I think it's worth just talking about the fact that this is a thing. It's a thing where we see this weird contradiction because we're humans first, and then we're reporters second, sometimes when it comes to dealing with life and death stuff. And I think that's where it kind of lands me

His life

He did so many things that were counter intuitive to people who would think that he would stay along the party lines. And one of the biggest things was he supported Obama, which was an amazing choice. And I think it was the right choice. And he also regretted publicly some of the decisions he made with weapons of mass destruction conversation back in the second war in Iraq. So there's just a lot of moments in his career where he was courageous and he was openly different than the people he served
