Experienced something on Facebook and I am not sure what to make of it…

Hey, swell. So last night I was on Facebook, and that's really rare for me. I was only doing it because I had to take care of some stuff for a group that I organized. And I came across a post from an old friend of mine and that I wanted to just talk about what I saw with you guys and see how you feel about it

Was a line crossed by OP? Was a line crossed in the comments?

And I guess I should add that the comments section did get pretty ugly. This inevitably turned into a conversation of pointing fingers and calling one another hypocrites and yada, yada, yada. You know, the, the Op initially eventually posted a comment saying, look, I'm not trying to argue with anybody. I just wanted to share this opportunity

So I don't know, maybe I'm just asking because I'm not part of the Jewish community and so I'm trying to figure out how the Birthright trip and the political and warlike turmoil would be the same and why people couldn't explore their heritage while also being sad for people who are suffering in Palestine and things like that. I don't know. I guess my comment isn't my opinion. It's more of like a question for others

Like, I I may have my own personal beliefs, but, like, if I if I'm just looking at it as, you know, somebody wanting to go someplace, even if it's not to get in touch with their Jewish heritage, but rather to further culture themselves and go to places in the world that they've never been before. I mean, that's an opportunity that doesn't necessarily roll around very often

I think a big issue here is that if you're coming into someone else's post immediately, like coming after them for something they said or something they did, it's not going to induce any positive change. You know, like, like, all that's going to make them do is want to shut down and avoid the conversation. And that's probably what happened with that guy. When he responded, he was just like, I don't have the bandwidth for this

One doesn't have to equate or negate the other just because if you wanted to boycott going to Birthright over what's going on with Russia and Ukraine. I just think that's foolish. You're hurting other people's. People making them suffer financially by doing that. And at the same time, it's not fair to say you could have one or the other. That's my opinion anyway

Sorry. But when you said, I don't have the bandwidth for this, I love that. And from now on, when I am mentally unprepared or don't have the mental capacity to deal with something, I'm absolutely going to say that. I'm just going to be like, I don't have the bandwidth for this right now

I think people can still try to fight for people's rights in Palestine and things like that and also go to birthright. Okay. I think toxic wokeness, like, stems from a good place. But like I said, it's just like people kind of using it as an outlet for their anger sometimes. One time I was approached by another non binary person, and they assumed that I was a woman without even asking me what my pronouns were first
