Defense attorney for Potter is chalking Daunte Wright’s murder up to an on the job accident…what do you think of this strategy?

article image placeholderProsecutors say Kim Potter's 'colossal screw-up' led to death of Daunte Wright, jury begins deliberating
And the prosecution has been doing a pretty darn good job of laying out the facts. And I got to say, just even from a neutral perspective, I think that the defense attorney for Kim Potter in this trial is not quite up to par, but one thing that he said today that I really took issue with and I wanted to maybe try and understand his thinking. So I thought, Why not ask all of you? I'm going to summarize this and I'm paraphrasing a little bit

Now, I think they've fixed that since then. But that's an example of, hey, there's a systemic problem here that these accidents fall into. And I just don't see that I see this as a mistake that was made by one person. And this was one person's mistake. And I don't believe there was anything that was because of the system in place

There's two parts to my response with this. The first part, I will answer your question directly, and that is absolutely not. It's not a credible defense. However, we do live in the United States of America, and it's quite possible that that defense may fly. But how I see it is this not all lines of employment are comparable because not all lines of work as a matter of duty can deprive any citizen of their life and Liberty

And I think that we're all seeing a different side of it, or at least the defense is trying to show a different side of it when in reality we have to look at the facts. And I think that you're spot on where you're saying it's going to be a very difficult time for the defense step up and try to create a story that maybe not there. So thank you for sharing this

I think how successful certain appeals are, although having said that, the more I think about it, it's a piece of research would come up with some indication that it would be a good thing to appeal to a jury's sense of not wanting to destroy her life on the grounds that that wouldn't bring the dead person back to life. Seems to me to be highly probable that she was, at the very least careless took out a gun in a certain emotional state and shot somebody dead

Update: Guilty on all charges

I think that comes down to probably the person that they hired, but also the situation itself. It was pretty hard to defend, especially given how much body camera footage there was and also the presence of the other officers pretty hard to dispute anything that went down. But yeah, I mean, this is like the third or fourth trial of this nature we've seen in recent months. I just like to see them die down a bit more

Hold government officials accountable...

I don't know whether it was last year or the year before the two police officers who arrested a young girl who goodness knows what her background was. And they pull her in the back and have, according to their testament, consensual sex with her. But she's accusing them of rape so that she can get out of her charges, which they never charge it with. So, yeah, they're responsible for that, right. You shouldn't have to put on their work description. Yeah
