Paul Thomas Anderson’s "There Will Be Blood"

I go so far as to say destiny told by the perspective of religious individuals, but also by those that could care less about religion at a time when seemingly everybody did. Now, the film was nominated for a lot of Academy Awards and was also on several top ten lists, securing the number one spot for many very reputable film journalists. I would say that really the cinematography was the standout aspect of sort of the behind the scenes process. Every shot seems so delicately crafted

A gritty, haunting tale of greed and fanatacism during SoCal’s oil boom of the late 1800s.

"No country for old men" is a high bar to beat!

But the movie that did win the Oscar that year, no country for Old Men, that was a fantastic movie. It's a very high bar to beat. If you say this one is closed, then it must be very good as well. But that movement, that was something

And every single time I revisit it, I think that I may be going to have outgrown it or not be as into it. But every time I feel like I noticed something different or the content and the themes that it's dealing with, I engage with it slightly different because I'm at a different life, stage, et cetera. So I definitely feel like if you have any interest in the American West, like, this is a film for you

Irish. I just wanted to say if you love no country for Old Men, I definitely think you will appreciate There Will Be Blood. Though it takes place in different time periods, I think the feeling that like epic feeling is in both also the violence, the grittiness, the incredible production and score and performances, it's all there

Bowie. That's a really good call out what you said about the Coen brothers and PTA. I felt that way a lot during this movies, and I really like the Coen brothers a lot. I've seen way more of their films than I have Paul Thomas Anderson films. But this one in particular of the PTA films I have seen, it did feel like a Coen brothers film. It really did at times. It has that sense of weight associated with it

Hey, Taylor, thank you for inviting me to this. I've actually never heard of this movie before. And as you said, at the end, I am not surprised that I might have lost to no country for Old Men. That is one of my favorite movies, kind of what he said on his post. It's kind of hard to be beaten. So yeah, it seems really interesting

Hey Jonathan. So the film is actually streaming on Netflix right now. It's a little long like I mentioned, but if you're okay with kind of parsing it out, I think you could chunk it out and get through it in a day pretty easily knowing that you love no country for Old Men. Bowie mentioned this earlier, but I'll second the fact that I think you will really like this movie. They do have a lot of tonal similarities at times

For just, like, my history classes in general, I'll find a movie from the historical time period, make sure it's going to be kind of slightly resembled that time period. Just make sure that's pretty much accurate, even if they use fixed small characters. But yeah, that's just like a way that helps me learn. So I just love watching the historical pieces. I definitely have to give this one a try
