US History and the textbook problem

And when we're learning history, I think it's critically important that we view all angles of whatever event it is we're learning about. It does us no good to view one side of the story and completely ignore the other side of the story. We need to formulate our own opinions and decisions based on all of the facts, not just some of the facts. So I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this particular episode

We've talked a bit before on one of my threads about social, emotional learning and life skills and things like that. But one thing that I've also noticed in the public school system. And one of the reasons why I chose to homeschool was the history problem. So I completely agree with you and I think that this is a great integration to education. Discussion

And that is such a hauntingly, sad, sad reality for that gentleman to have to come to in that moment in time that a critical piece of his town's history had been deliberately left out because they didn't want to acknowledge it because they didn't want to acknowledge what had happened not even that long ago. And so I feel like without the conversations that we have outside of the confines of normal education, that's where a lot of our learning is really done, I believe
