Gulmohar : Have you watched it yet ? A Universal story & World Class Cinema !!

article image placeholderUploaded by @Sumranjs
This movie works its magic through its avant garde treatment and in mero uno performances by the actors like Shamila Tagore, Manoj Wachpai and Amol Polikar. My one and only critique was that towards the very end, it tried to hard whitewash the inconvenient truths and complexity of human emotions, almost oversimplifying the intricate and delicate fabric it had woven. Anyways, that's the selfish writer and director in me speaking, but regardless, I would highly recommend this movie. It's the kind of cinema we should endorse happy watching

I think at the end of the day, as a mother, she has succeeded, right? Because come what may, whatever storm that the family went through, people at the end of the day managed to sort of stick together and I think that is a hallmark. I have seen that play out many times in families across

But, yeah, I think the subtlety and sublime way of filmmaking, which was very distinctive in Gulmohar, where I can say it's very different from Monsoon Wearing, right. Is just the way the camera moves, the music flows, the dialogues, the emotions, the expressions. I don't know. There is a filmmaker in me. And that is why I went into the technicality towards the end where those four days don't look like four days, they look like four months

So I watched the movie over the weekend and I think what I loved the best was how the movie managed to play down all the dramatic moments without resorting to melodrama. This is something we need to see more of in Indian cinema, where dramatic displays of emotions and over the top actions during pivotal scenes have become the norm

And especially when his father tells him that is his biological dad tells him that, right? So agar, jiskeepas, nihi hair. Okay, so all those that dialogue, especially, and those inferences were really good. And perhaps there was this dilemma of the ending, what would be the best way to approach it? Perhaps that might have been the case. But for me, I don't know

And it's not just entertainment. There's just beyond that, right? So you can dig into your own personal lives and all the relationships that it portrays. And that's why I think it's more universal. It has such universal appeal, and anyone from any country, any background should watch it. And that's why I think it's a world class cinema. Yeah, I don't think it's like Bollywood. Bollywood, right. And that's why I think this was so different

Hi Sreeja. I really appreciated your perspective and breaking down of your thought process over the ending. And as I had mentioned in my original Swell, that I was selfish because of my own writer and filmmaker tendencies that I usually get into when I watch something beautiful and inspiring. And such was the case with this movie where I just relished the main course, the meal that was served, and I was not ready for a dessert in the end
