This is the way the world will end - not with a bang but an AI whimper

Morning swell for those of you who are following the Facebook downtime and the reasons behind it. I have this very funny saying that this is how the world will end because of some AI. So it appears that this is a self goal. Facebook rolled out an AI based system for routing traffic to its service to make it more efficient because they have decentralized infrastructure and they wanted to make it more efficient to route traffic to their systems

@sudha what are the lessons?

Oh, so this is in a station that focuses on the technology and its failings, and I'm going to stay respectful of this station and say that, yes, the world might end in an AI whimper. But then I want to flip over to another station about spirituality and philosophy and talk about what world are we referring to?

If it was not the AI, sorry if it was not the human hand behind the Glitch, and if it was truly the failing of just the automation, then I guess the learning from it is this is just the beginning of more such failures as more and more people resort to automated systems and artificial intelligence for things, things are bound to fail, and people are bound to react to that failure. And therein will emerge new tech, new regulations, new laws, new governance

Now, a lot of people think that's totally, completely ridiculous because of the massive amount of money that Facebook would have lost today as a result of the server going down. I wanted to ask you, do you think that there's any credibility to that? And I know that this is just speculation, but I'm wondering what you think

Taylor, that's a good one. But let me just put it, you know, this way, in a company like Facebook, typically, there will be multiple levels of the before you can push something like this out there. Right. So let us say for a minute that it was Facebook's internal desire for whatever reason, while they cleaned up their internal archives to keep traffic away, that will give them potentially the ability to quickly scan and clean up internal archives
