My very first World Series of Poker. ♠️

article image placeholderThe television set for the 2018 WSOP.
The year was 2008. It was my very first visit to Sin City, but more exciting. My very first year to the World Series of Poker. I had won a $10,000 seat into the main event. It's the tournament. If you're not familiar. The World Series has 55 to 60 events each summer. The main event is the big one. That one is usually televised, and at this time, ESPN was doing it. I was like a kid in a candy store

Playing in the $10,000 Main Event, surrounded by pros.

Punters and Dealers 👏💪👊

Amazing. Amazing. Christina, it's so good that you won your seat at that game. That's an accomplishment. What an interesting experience you've had in casinos. Hey, do you think that at Pro targeted you because you're a woman or because you were an amateur or maybe a bit of both. Hey, I never dealt poker, but there was a lot of activity and noise and excitement around the poker tolerance that happened at our casino

Yes! @GeorgieDee

But if you're a guy and you lose to that same person, he's going to turn to you and say, good hand. Well played. Although it makes for a very uncomfortable environment for some women, I think it also can give us an advantage because we're underestimated so we can play in such a way that they're not seeing it coming

Equal opportunity

And it didn't matter whether you're a woman or a man equal opportunities. And that was in the 90s, and it wasn't enforced through social regulation. It was just a natural evolution of a skill set. It's astonishing how that sexism can exist in places. And even with the punters, the men were no more outrageous than the women, because sometimes punters could get very angry and loud and obnoxious and abusive

And he plays into it a lot. And he wants them to think that he's a hayseed and he wants them to start picking on him and uses that to his advantage. And it's just kind of funny. And you see that in other walks of life, too, where people want you to underestimate you and want you to fall into that trap so that they've and unfortunately, it sounds like you had that correct up until the bad beat and the river card, but fantastic great stuff
@SeekingPlumb

Interesting what the environment brings out or attracts. @GeorgieDee

Texas took me aback because it's one thing what we experienced in the day to day and the frustration of that and so on. But this was like someone had turned the dial up, like you said, maybe in a different regard, but there's always a lady's event as well. And there's an interesting mix of women then who come to that event. And there were definitely some women there who were sexist towards women towards men. And so, yeah, it's a very interesting environment

Amateur vs Pro. The convergence. Being starstruck. 🤩 @MerelyHuman

I don't know that I want to say on par, but there is some sort of we're all starting from the same place. I think that sometimes the beauty of and the hilarity of the game of poker where anyone can do Brunson used to say it could take a few minutes to learn the game, but it takes a lifetime to master it. And that's just it because it's such an easy game to learn. Initially

Turning disadvantage to advantage. @Phil

I mean, at first blush, if you look at that table, I'm the easiest target initially until they start to look at your play and decide they're going to respect instead of deem it lucky or some other series of words they want to string together
