Wisdom and Advice For My 24th Year

article image placeholderUploaded by @jsmwang
And then so I was hoping afterwards I would be able to open up swell and see any advice that people would have to start my year off. But at last I got to the retreat, and there was no cell service, so I'm doing this now post birthday. But, yeah, I would still just love to hear anything that you guys would like to offer from life experience

@jsmwang "Be your Self." 🙏🏽💭❤️💯

When we were 24, it was a lot different, and it's always going to be different among people that are at this particular age or a particular age, because age doesn't define us. But the real question is, what the f*** is going on in the world that is affecting us at that age? Hence the human question or curiosity of what do others think a particular 24 year old should be doing?

@jsmwang Be patient with yourself

And now I realize that it's okay to not have all that stuff figured out. It's okay to be patient with yourself and just let things happen as they are. Everything happens in time. So my advice would just be just be patient with yourself and explore and try different things. Everything will happen in time. Your bonus question what was I doing at 24? I think I was stressing about my classes that I was taking at 24. I think that's what I was doing

But the shoulds and expectations have seemingly caused more grief and pain and frustration and limits and then are really necessary, right? When it boils down to it, a lot of the times you hear people struggling with something, and a lot of it's ties back to expectations and why do we feel like we should do whatever it is? And I think that's one of the big ones that I would have told myself

Happy Birthday. And some insight I wish I'd had earlier.

This is something I wish I had learned earlier that in so many ways the cliche is the obstacle is the way in so many ways the moments that are unpleasant merely need to be accepted and a kind of sound perspective taken upon them in order to be well in that moment even which is very counterintuitive, I think. And this connects well actually to the bonus question which is what I was doing at 24

I think that life is what you make of it. Opportunities will come your way, maybe some wildly different from what you ever thought you'd be doing and sometimes taking those opportunities is a really good thing to do. So I guess just know that in your life you can always change it up, mix it up, do something that you want to do if you are in a career that's making you miserable, change it if you can

@jsmwang: You have time…

Hey, Jay, this is Rev. LJ I wanted to hop on this well cast and offer you two cent from my 24 year old self. At 24, I was getting married. I was preparing to become a father. And I did that under the auspices of sort of this illusion that time was of the essence and that I don't have forever to figure out, am I going to get married? I don't have forever to figure out if I'm going to have children

Life is fun. You can't be serious all the time. We have to enjoy this life because it's so very short. Take care, have a great meditation, have a great birthday and hope to hear back. Take care. Bye

Even then, I remember, like, I was in the beginning stages of working on a children's book that I wanted to write. I had my idea book for writing down, like, the stuff that would come to mind, and I think that I felt like work was just very much so a priority for me

In jujitsu, when you tap, you just learned. Unless you have their own mindset. So, J wang, JW, happy belated birthday be you. There's been a lot of great comments on here. Awesome thread, by the way. But don't take everything serious. Get out of the review taylor of life. If you want to have a future, get past your past. Don't take it personal. One more time. Delegate your weaknesses. Andre. Make your strength stronger

When I’m 24…

But, yeah, hopefully I'll be out of college at 24 hours in getting set up for my commentary career. Thank you so much for posting. It was very interesting to listen to and very often to reply to. So have a wonderful day. Bye

@jsmwang

After Pearl Harbor, this unit flew combat airsport for the Marines at Iwo Jima. In 1984, our unit provided a tactical sport role for the operation Gun Smoke. As a result, for that support, we were recipients of the Air Force outstanding unit citation. After the military attendant Airframe Andre Power Plant School to get a license to maintain civilian aircraft. But due to the industry strikes and all the other crap that was going on, I decided I didn't want to take that career route

@jsmwang Don’t settle, there’s always room for change 🦋

This is also something we can apply all our lives to not settle and that there's always room for change. It's scary for many of us to even entertain this idea. This is my advice to my 24 year old self. And here I am now at 350. There's so plenty of changes to come. I hope you had an incredible birthday. Take care

Hey, Jay, I haven't listened to everybody's replies because I'm sure everybody's got fantastic advice. And the only things I'm going to give you are other people's advice. Even though I'm old, I'm a crone born then ancient, darling, ancient. And I've probably got tons of advice, but I'm not going to be so presumptuous to foist it upon you

And I really can't express how incredible it was to hear from all of you about your very diverse set of experiences and your pieces of advice that were very different and tackled so many parts of life but also overlapped in very cool ways. So I'm just going to go down and summarize all of this in case someone is coming to listen. My summary is kind of just the simplest summary and I hope that if people listen to this, they can just go directly to yourself

Have a proper view of Mistakes.

Hey, Jay, speaking for myself, I learned 50. It turned 50. Wow. It's a 51. September 7. Keep that in mind. Anyways, what I've learned is that as you get older, you have a proper view of mistakes. So what do I mean by that? Well, when I was 24, I was really down on myself. When I made a mistake, I was self deprecating. I was how stupid. Wow, you're so stupid. Oh man
