SXSW Moderator Nancy Jundi COO Digital Film Tree

article image placeholderNancy Jundi
Highly recommended from Kip Kroger, who I interviewed the supervising producer of Ted Lasso. And it seems you are legendary in the world of production, post production. You are the COO of digital Film Tree, and I just learned what that is. And your goal is to democratize technology to empower storytellers from around the world. And that's a great segue, because that's a huge statement to make, and it's a great purpose

Wow. Nancy is here and we’re up for a master class in production with mojo!

Democratizing Technology & Empowering Storytellers

What was missing was a collaborative focus in taking us back to our roots and refocusing a lot of energy that had gone into a various array of helping filmmakers storytellers to bring their projects to life into a cohesive effort that more people could really understand

Partnership onboarding

They're one of myopic moment of I got to get a to B there's this a to Z feeling that it seems like you guys are committed to and I think the cloud being what it is is part of why you guys are so powerful, because you know that there's a shared world that is a click away. But that shared world also can be hard to navigate

The Power of Being Interdisciplinary

But for some people that is going to be replicating a 1951 bomber that they can't afford to film with or have access to and need full on post supervision. Onset of how to accomplish that in a green screen with tracking balls, and for other people that is going to be coveted safety and taking a LiDAR scan of their set and how to block every single section of the production environment so that people are distanced and they know where to go and that can take place for a feature phone

Scale of clients

And when they say their pain point is dollar signs, how does that play into your ability to help them? Because you guys probably have a hefty cost attached to how they can secure you or correct me and tell me that there's a whole scale for that, because you want to empower artists to do their work. It's fascinating to me how you do this because I think this is a real good message for people to understand the philosophy in action

Some things are worth your time, some are worth your money.

So even though I came in about ten years into DfT history, those first ten years, I was running editorial for other post houses that was highly leveraged on Avid, which is the editorial platform by which most broadcast television and feature films are cut

Education

I have a twopart question based on your response. Thank you. That was so amazing. By the way, I'm really enjoying this conversation. The first part you mentioned about education. Google just came out with a big announcement that they're teaching. It sort of support through Coursera, where for, like, $240, you can start your career, bypassing your four year College and really getting a chance to just drop into the marketplace, the workplace, the workforce. And I applaud that

Be curious. Stay humble.

And so when people say that they got a master's in film or I just kind of want to appreciate everything that they gleaned and the film history that they may have gotten from that. But the most practical application of skills is acquired by being on a set or working with people who are working on a show in post production or spending the time to learn Google AdWords and the difference between a negative keyword and Gray hat and black hat and white hat

Thank you ! @NJundi @KipK To be continuing here... on Swell

This conversation will continue. I'm just going to pause it now and hope that more voices come in. And Nancy, thank you so much. You're just a wonderful voice in this industry. And I think Kip's introduction was spot on. So feel the love, baby

Many thanks and can’t wait for folks to catch Ted Lasso: #EmotionInTheEdit!

I really appreciate you taking the time during what I'm sure is going to be a massively busy south by Southwest for you and the swell team. I'm very excited to dive in more on this platform as a journalist myself. Else this is wildly efficient and very helpful in conducting interviews and so excited to use it more. See more from you guys and a huge thanks to Kip whole team lab and very excited for everyone to catch the panel tomorrow. Thanks again, Deborah
