SXSW Band Beauty Sleep - Radical Irish Art-Pop

article image placeholderBeauty Sleep
Hey, everyone, can you hear that beautiful music in the background? That is the sound of the band. Beauty Sleep, a radical, art pop sweetheart duo from Dairy, Ireland. So excited to have you both on Swell. The band is described as a bougie buffet of the most bewitching synths and bombastic guitars that are guaranteed to make you blush. And I can say from personal experience listening to Beauty Sleep that that is true

The beginning of Beauty Sleep

Are there any other bands or singers, songwriters that you grew up listening to? That made you just think I want to do that someday I'm going to be a musician

Creating music during the pandemic

I know something that's been challenging, but also an opportunity for creativity for a lot of artists and musicians is the Pandemic and Lockdown. And I have have missed going to shows so much here in the States, and I cannot wait to dance around and scream and sing with people again. So I'm wondering what that's been like for you in Ireland, how you have continued to stay connected to music and your music scene and still create despite the pandemic

Your show at SXSW

And lastly, for now, I am so stoked to watch your show tonight. And I'm curious what that process has been like for you for the show and at south by Southwest, especially since I know this will be Beauty Sleep's first show since your prepandemic tour. How did it feel to get to perform again in a different space? And for those of us planning on watching tonight or whatever time it is in the world where we are, what can we expect to hear in the show?

And I was doing that as well as a teenager. And I was like, well, if they can do it, I can do it. And I think there was something so empowering about their carefree silliness, which I really loved. So I think those people made me think I could be in a band as well as the movie School of Rock

So being able to play this set for South By, like, Slightly Live was honestly like an act of therapy almost for all of us, everyone in the band. As soon as we booked it, we were in the practice room, just like hugging each other. And while not hugging each other, mentally hugging each other, just getting very excited, it's hard to put into words. I'm sure that you can all empathize. It's been nice to have the time to record music

So until it's demolished, we get to live there. And it really has the energy of, like, the kids have taken over the school. It's like graffiti in the halls and stuff. It's great. And we have a big practice room there that's, like an old gym. So it's a lot of space. So we were lucky to be able to go in there a couple of times over the year and try out new songs

@BeautySleep SXSW music discoveries!?

But I'm wondering if you discovered any artists that you hadn't known before or you got to see any bands or artists that you love. I discovered a singer songwriter named Alexander Biggs that I'm just so excited about, and I'm wondering if you recommend anyone else. There's also this band I think they're called Noya Rao or something like that. I save them on my Spotify
