Would we recognize non-human sentience?

article image placeholder@SeekingPlumb
I'm putting this here for me. But should you find yourself here, this is a response I gave to a post Irish maid called can AI be sentient where? I'm pondering whether we would even recognize it if we saw it

And we won't be any wiser because ultimately the willingness for acceptance and acknowledgement from our fellow man is so heavy in the world. Right. Let's assume the AI walks around as well like a human being in a robot suit and we couldn't really tell per se. I'm referring to something like ex Machina here. If we are getting acknowledgment from somewhere and I think that is what we sentient, I will use I hear you and I love you and I accept you to lending

@Binati_Sheth Yes!

I love how you put it. Something along the lines of they'd have more important questions or things to solve or address than whether they seem like a robot or not. So true. I also liked your point about them hiding it. I could imagine that from a place of self preservation, there's enough Sci-Fi, enough social media, et cetera, where there's all these horror stories of what a sentient AI or a sentient robot, etc. Etc

Your point about survival, though? That one is true. I think one whether we believe in sentence of other life forms on Earth or not, survival is the one thing that unites everything that has life in it. Right. So from that survival angle alone, because technically AI is artificial. But then philosophy, if it knows it exists, even if it is artificial, so to speak, like someone with a prosthetic arm, do we disregard that arm? No, we don't

But in my mind, it's so alive. Oh, my goodness. Utter brain fart. I can't think of the word I'm looking for, but let's say vital. If everything that we're doing going forward, there's so many more things to consider than once did. And we can't do those just blindly anymore. We have to ask these questions and ponder about them and not simply the question answer, but then the implications of the answer. Right

And I want to push it to the next level to find out how solid do I feel it is? Do I need to adapt it, adjust it, throw it out something different? But what has come from that then is using that same process. When I hear someone else say something that doesn't always go over very well because people don't like to have reflected back to them something they just said particularly

We always like to link things to how it affects me, my family, my country, my tribe, whatever it is, something next to my. What would that be for something like this? So I think you're on a great track. I think if you keep at this track, that tiny little Rivers about you being a philosophy pioneer could turn into reality. Who knows? So, yeah, thank you. Now, always cherish your thoughts

And I wonder what curiosity or creative thought, et cetera might look like if it doesn't have if that thread is snipped right, what does that look like? I think it would be an interesting premise or portion of a story. I don't know what that looks like, but now I want to ponder it. Thank you. Oops
