A HUMBLE rumble,…let’s talk.

article image placeholderUploaded by @lwatsonjr
Unfortunately, I cannot answer any of these questions because until this day even though this terminology is age old it represents more an ideal than a set of concrete parameters. But I'd like to hear your thoughts. Humility, by and large has been characterized by this idea of self abasement or self deprecation depending on who you're talking to. It also would suggest that there is a prosocial or affiliative feeling of appreciation for other people

Does humility have a darkside? #InquiringMind #AskSwell

And in terms of its usefulness for our betterment of ourselves, humility is a very authentic trait, I believe. When it's not authentic, it's very transparently and people kind of feign humility. It triggered me when you said that, because when someone feigns humility, I've seen that really the joke is humble bragging on social media

@DBPardes: circular indeed.

Particularly in the light of Roe v. Wade being overturned. When we talk about ethical and unethical and moral and immoral constructs characteristics and how we attribute those to people or choices and decisions. I'm just sort of wrestle there. And maybe you're absolutely right. I definitely heard you. I heard you loud and clear on the circular nature. That's why I put in the description. Circular, indeed

@lwatsonjr & @DBPardes "a polar to humble." 💭🌊🙏🏽☯️♋️♓️⚛️

It's interesting because how we see it manifest in society and in the world. It's interesting that you brought up religion because Christianity portrays Jesus or yeshua, as this meek, humble symbol, and then he was in opposition of Caesar empire and really just traditional laws, rigid laws. And so it's interesting to see the polarity of humility or being humble or meek, even in the biblical sense, but we can also see it in everyday life scenario and we can feel it too, more importantly
@SeekingPlumb
And that in itself is freeing and empowering. And whether I'm humble or not, in someone's eyes, it almost doesn't matter, right? Because where's that coming from and why does it matter? For me, it comes back to things like expectations or even the word should. And whenever we get into those territories, I start to ask questions of where these things coming from? Why should I do that?

@SeekingPlumb "Humility is Relative." 🤔💭🙏🏽

The humility that's being described as being described and defined by the church because he didn't write his own story and no one that was alive when he was alive wrote a story or the stories that we know of him or consider canon. Let's just say in the four gospels. Those people that wrote that did not know him. And so it's like a larger agenda of a definition. It's like a bigger meaning. Right?

@SeekingPlumb: This, this is why I love swell!

Seeking plum. Third aisle. Deborah this, this right here, this mashup is why I love Swell. I will say, almost selfishly, that that as asking questions about things, in this case, humility, very abstract constructs that have such a plethora of different understandings, different interpretations. And I laughed with you, Christina, about the subjective morality, judging, using their subjectivity. I thought that was hilarious. And that is why I always enjoy inviting you to the conversations like this one

@The3rdOWL

That's a great point. I think maybe they're both right because subjectively, any time we make a judgment, we cannot do it without it being relative to something else, right? Whether this is tasty or gross or whether this is quote unquote, good or bad
@SeekingPlumb

@lwatsonjr @The3rdOWL

So if you're comparing this man or whoever it is, and whatever scenario it is within a particular group of people, then by comparison, his or her behavior could be seen as this particular adjective. I also liked when you highlighted the word ideal

Humbleness vs arrogance

I have been a humble man and I've been a prideful man in my life. And humbleness darkness. I feel there's darkness within everything that we deem to be positive. And I also feel that there is positivity in things we deem to be negative, but too much of one or the other is dangerous. So what are we to say of the man who is deemed by all to be the most humble, suddenly feels that way himself because everyone told him that?
