Isnt it time Urban India demanded better governance and infrastructure?

article image placeholderThe India Fix: Crippled city governments are India’s biggest governance failure
India's metropolitan cities are facing a host of issues that are mounting up by the day, and we all know about these traffic jams, broken street lights, Burgundy population and poor infrastructure, floods during heavy rains, et cetera, to name a few. Now, cities don't seem to have enough funds, and they depend on the largest of the state or central governments

Later on what happened is at ground level, October duty and local body tax was supposed to be collected by the municipal corporation and it was supposed to be passed on to the state government and the central government was not inclusive in any way of the actions of this whole process

Sakura, thank you so much for making this point about GST and I think I left that out. And this definitely explains this whole political dynamics that is at play here. Now, another point that I really want to strongly make is we definitely need to reexamine this the administration, right? There has to be an urban body that is independent of state or what can I say, central interference, right?

We are not going to just get up from our pompous a**** and checking. Unfortunately, the majority of the people who would have some kind of vested interest directly or indirectly in fact, people are getting down on the streets and voting and then later on they are not finishing their duties just at voting on stage. Here example Delhi. Soon Punjab will also take over

Your response was so insightful and I think if everybody did their job well, we wouldn't have to break our heads over this predicament, right? But unfortunately people are not doing their job properly and that is where one has to look at ways citizens can get more involved. And yes, Delhi is an example, I agree with you

So on those contexts in your example itself the boats have been rocked, the billionaire is true but at the same point in time just remember one thing these are the people who are proactive in life. That is the reason they reach there and the next generation that they are breathing will obviously end up spending away. That's a fact

These are things that are still a challenge. But there are examples of movement where people have overcome, people have got changed. It is happening. There are pockets and I am hopeful. But still I think Bangalore has a chance because this has happened. So maybe, like you likely said, the proactive billionaires will get some wheels moving rather. So let us wait and see what unfolds

In some areas it doesn't work. It's just that the tender is just a hotel all you need to do is just launch a complaint against him and normally people avoid to do this because then they feel oh that person will be a gunda or someone will come against me
