And then we have them, which means just with. So you're just feeling with that person. When you're sympathetic, you feel with their cause. Their parent may have gotten injured in a car accident, so you're feeling with them, but you don't feel inside them, which empathy actually feels inside another person. And this is why a lot of people may get confused by empathy, because it's like, how can you actually feel inside another person?
