Whereas men were supposed to inhibit the public sphere regardless of the woman's status or wealth, her primary role was to take care of the family she served. Caring for the family members and maintaining the household required a lot of unpaid, endless jobs which didn't even get precognition in the patriarchal society. Social stereotypes that identified women as emotional and weak and the private sphere appear to adversely affect and prevent women's participation in public life
