What IS life coaching, anyway?

However, if these obstacles seem to persist or they point at issues such as anxiety or trauma or any other emotional or psychological concern, as coaches, we are bound by ethical code to refer you to someone with the training to help you further. In other words, counselors, therapists, consultants these folks are experts and they are trained in hypnosis, advice and intervention. Coaches are not. We work with clients in partnership and we function under the assumption that a client is healthy, resourceful and creative

Thank you for this. It was super informative and a good intro, I think, because I do wonder about it and I feel like I hear a lot of people talking about how they're coaches and it makes me wonder, are you? That's kind of the first question that comes to mind is from how? So I'm really curious to know what the training is like. Because it's not something you can learn at a university. Right. Are there organizations or academies for life coaching?

@r.o

Coursework under the ICF, which was my umbrella, I had to minimally train for over 80 hours by way, of coursework, and over 100 hours by way of coaching clients, some of which was supervised. Then I had to get examined. It was a written exam and an oral one. And now I have to recertify every three years. So I have to take a minimum amount, of coursework, 40 hours worth, of coursework, every three years, and also submit supervised coaching sessions
