Do sounds really communicate what we want them to?

article image placeholder*VROOM*
I don't know what sort of like a monster vehicle, something. It's a regular day to day vehicle. Right. But it's got some sort of idea of strength and behind it, right. And if you took that engine and you made it sound like a sewing machine, it would lose all of that. Right. But if you like, piped that strong rumbling sound only to the driver, but not outside the vehicle, it would not have the same effect. Right?

The illusions we wrap ourselves in, individually & as a society. Does that *vroom* really portray personal power?

So I think that there's definitely a change in perception of quality and those types of things I'm curious to hear because I'm probably not the norm when it comes to thinking about cars and thinking about how your perception is portrayed and why you personally feel that because you have a car or allowed engine, that your car is in good shape and that it's a really fancy car because I've seen some really bad cars out there with loud noises. Trust me

Jet fighter vs glider. @JCB07

I wanted to be able to, like, do loops and dive bomb. And like, all of these different things. And if I take away the sound, I think I probably wouldn't care. But if you take away something like the physical experience of it sort of you can feel that rumble in. You right. I don't want to say it shakes, but it's got this something or other going on with the engine, you know?

Yes! The amazing human machine! @Kendy_

And I suppose marketing and branding are not necessarily evil or anything like that. But it makes me question when I realize how much they're trying to influence me to buy whatever it is they're buying some of those ads. I'm just thinking in my head, there was one Apple commercial. No voice, I think, but it had the slow panning of the camera along the sleek edges, and it had colorful swirls and the music

(Sorry. Very sleepy.) @Kendy_

That Phantom sound. I was watching a show today where there was a beeping and they couldn't figure out where it was in the apartment. But when the scene changed, although the beeping had technically stopped, I heard it beep like, two or three more times. And then I was like, Christina, you're not really hearing this. And then suddenly it stopped. I thought, how funny is that? But I know what you mean

This is an interesting conversation, because I so I played the bansudi flute, started playing it a few years ago. It's a challenge. And now it's been become a meditation. And if you know anything about the ban Sudi flute, I play a large one one. So it's got a really beautiful deep sound, like bamboo. It's bamboo just with holes in it so you can feel the wood vibrating. And it's such a lovely sound, right?

Semi-universal vs individual. State or mood, etc. @MysticScientist

They'll find it calming and soothing, and other cats will not necessarily have the same response. They won't necessarily run from it. I know that my cat, he'll look at the speaker a little bit more engaging than he would any other time, but he seems to be calmed by the cello, and I don't know if it's because I'm calmed by it or what have you but that's interesting
