Creating the culture, the lifeblood, of Swell.

We have a very important role here, and that is establishing the culture that we want so that it can be perpetuated. So those who come and join in the coming months and years are going to want to be a part of that and are going to help to perpetuate that as well. We can look at other social media platforms and see what culture has become on those platforms, and I realize that has changed over time. But I do think that we have an opportunity to create a sound foundation here

What do YOU want to be a part of? What culture do YOU want to be responsible for collaboratively shaping?

@SeekingPlumb want to make sure I understand you

Hey, Christina. So I was listening to you, and I found it interesting and kind of challenging. I guess I don't think it'll ever be a conversation because in a conversation either live or asynchronous conversation live over the telephone or in person, there's going to be attention given presence, received and sensed and felt. And there's a different energy in a time shifted asynchronous platform, whether it's audio or video, in video, it'll never be a conversation in my opinion

@SeekingPlumb

A shift has/is happening. @LifeOrigami

Thank you for listening, Greg, and for your thoughtful reply. That wasn't exactly what I meant. I think there is something amazing and absolutely beautiful about Asynchronousic audio, and that is that we have the ability to to have multi layered, multi woven conversations. They don't have to be linear. They can create an amorphic shape if we were to look at it in a visual representation. So I'm not so focused on who is having the conversation underneath the original post

@SeekingPlumb I appreciate you and I think I’ve seen this in audio continui

So the truth is, for me, I haven't really had the energy or even the interest some days to engage. I think it's hard to put one's finger on, but I guess if I'm being honest, I think it's a natural progression of a social audio community. I'm pretty sure we saw this wave of excitement of the app, and then it would wane certain people. It would just waned because it's a lot of work

@SeekingPlumb ... I might be jaded from past experiences elsewhere

They didn't need their own dog food to use their own app, which is different of the founders here, but they hired a community manager whose job it was to engage with the community to encourage people to be a chair year leader. They repost other content and try to encourage the community and build the community. Ultimately. Then she was so good at her job. Then they moved her into a production management role

This feels like a conversation to me...

And I wanted to say that I think what I've been hearing across the board is a lot of amiable and respectful and thoughtful conversations, which I'm really excited about, and I would like to see us guard that and create more of that by modeling it in every post that we can and without canceling

@SeekingPlumb

@LifeOrigami

She did drive things. I think, too. What really changed over there was the fact that it changed from an interactive thing to radio stations to podcasting. And it was an evolution that really shut down and shut out the possibility for connection and conversation. And I don't know how much of that was also enhanced by the organic cultural change that may have happened

Great.. conversation here. πŸ‘€ @LifeOrigami and @SeekingPlumb

They just like it. Whatever floats your boat, man. But for me, I guess I'm more of a content creator that's my mission statement in life is to create content so I can't stay on the sidelines for too long. So sometimes I can treat a person's original post like it's my post, and I guess that can be what you're talking about, Christina. And there's sometimes I'm not even looking for a conversation. I don't know
7
@SeekingPlumb

Yes!! @gnossos (And welcome!)

And we've even had some heated conversations. But we have learned in those we have come out the other side, at least for me, I've learned how to take a minute and breathe before having a response, take a minute and re listen to what was said to make sure that I'm not responding emotionally and I'm actually hearing them. Yes. I love audio for all of the reasons that you specify

@SeekingPlumb

Devil's Advocate here. @Wuandurful

The same goes for guns. Are the gun manufacturers responsible for how we use those guns? Yes, the creators and the staff are responsible for maybe the programming of the app, incorporating psychology into the different features of the app, giving us particular tools and so on. But to me, it's not the entire picture. Our role in how we use that is also a big component of the overall entity that is swell, just like we say the same thing, maybe about Twitter or Facebook

I shape with feeling more than anything else. @SeekingPlumb

I kept track. I'm human. I noticed that, oh, they featured this person didn't on the for you, but also the latest. So yeah, I noticed stuff like that. Yeah, I noticed stuff like that. So ultimately, I just want to have fun on here. And as you pointed out, I am a part of conversations on here. I'm engaging. It's not like I'm speaking to myself

@SeekingPlumb

Devil's Advocate. Favouritism. Diversity of age. @Wuandurful

I'd say let there be multiple Devil's advocates. I mean, really, you know, it's good. I think for us to challenge each other's ideas, it helps to broaden our perspectives. Otherwise, we can get tunnel vision or stuck in our heads or stuck in our Echo Chambers, etc. Or as you reference stuck in our books. I have to say Dewuan, that sounded a little bit passiveaggressive. Are you referring to me and my books?
4
@SeekingPlumb

Addendum to comments on topics & favouritism. @Wuandurful

Okay. I'm going to add a caveat to my comments about favoritism and topics. There's definitely favoritism because we're all human and there are different things going on in our lives at different times. I mean, just as an example leading up to the 2020 presidential election, tell me you did not notice how many swells, how many topics were about the election, about politics, and so on. Right. We're seeing more uptick in cases of COVID

It’s a stacked deck with staff creating content they star. @SeekingPlumb

Yeah, I had to check just to make sure. And I seen for the for you section here on Swell. That is Book Week, June January 3 through the 9th. So I guess that explains why I had seen in such an uptake in the books being like a cornerstone of content on here just suddenly, wow. It's a lot of book related topics, and that's what's going on here on Swell. So that explains it to me

@SeekingPlumb @Wuandurful @gnossos great convo Community!

And now that being said, there's no question that every time we speak and interact, we are indirectly contributing to the culture. But I think this whole cultural buy in is dangerous because I think every time, like I said, every time we engage, we're adding our voices, and we're contributing to the group think we're contributing to the culture and the tone, and we have an opportunity everybody directs

Self editing kills my creativity. @LifeOrigami

But for me in my head, it's like suddenly you have to talk about things of value to shape the culture and all that. And I don't like that. I don't like that because I want to talk about what I feel like talking about, whether it may be valuable to you or not. That's not really of my concern

@Wuandurful performance based acceptance ugh

Hey, Dawan. First of all, I just want to say, I mean, when you when I heard you say, Well, you know, sometimes I just record content just to get it a thought out of my head. And if that's the achievement, absolutely can't relate to that. I admire that because I feel like I'm being noisy, but it is no ideal platform. And it's very interesting
