What does it mean to be lucky?

article image placeholderThis Researcher Reveals How Lucky People Differ From Unlucky People
For eleven consecutive years, I spent my summers in Vegas at the World Series of Poker. A friend I went with she would tell everyone and anyone that she has the worst run of cards ever, but I would always think it depends on how you see the cards, how you approach them, how you work with them, as opposed to against them. There were times when she'd watched me see what my cards were and how I played them and told me I should never have played those cards

Luck is my coconspirator ✨

I just don't tend to stay there for very long, and it's usually when that happens, it usually just means that I need some sleep. So I'm curious if others haven't noticed or caught themselves that they're thinking of themselves as lucky or unlucky, and how that might differ in the way that others perceive you, for example, something that was also interesting for me to observe in the article I read earlier this week

Positive attitude and hard work

I also read this interesting quote by Roman philosopher on Luck, which says luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I think that's what it is. A person with a positive outlook is well prepared, and how others view us as being lucky or unlucky, et cetera is totally a matter of perspective. But for a person who seems to be lucky, it is hard work in a way, right? Because maintaining a positive attitude also takes effort not to be bogged down by day to day

I think there's got to be some complex psychology at play here that entices people to put all of their faith in a good luck charm or a lucky day or a lucky number and other such irrational beliefs in the hope that they just might be able to harness that all pervasive phenomenon call lucky. And I admit I am one of those people. So I have my lucky dress, I have my lucky days, and I have my lucky charm as well. So yes, there you go

They're just like, oh, this is a lot of fun. And they're optimistic. They don't know what they're doing. But at the same time, they're optimistic, they're having fun, and it just kind of leads into winning. So I always love taking people to the track for the first time because that enthusiasm and that optimism rubs off on you. And we all seem to have a good day when somebody is new at the track

Expanding into the universe instead of being stuck. @rachel

And the craziest thing is that she was only able to reach me when it was my birthday because of other things happening in her life. I won the giveaway, obviously. So there's that. And her name was the same as mine. So it was Christina giving Christina this gift on my birthday, and it was just wild. But I had no effect on that whatsoever

Being open to possibilities. @wordsmith @NamelessJournal

These are dead tree beads on my wrist and understanding that there's a placebo effect there. And then there's the other part of me that wants to believe in all sorts of things. And I've never really thought about those beads as possibly being lucky. But maybe it's a similar concept. There are things we reach for and for whatever reason we do that they do have an effect on our mental outlook, our perspective and how we then move through life because of it

And just like in horse racing, I'm predicting who's going to win. But then I'm also looking at the odds and seeing who everyone else is betting. And if I think there's a vulnerable favorite, that's when I really like to get into a race, especially if it's a heavy favorite that I think is very vulnerable because you're getting a better price on your horse at that point or the horse that you think is going to win

The "luck powers" of the human brain! @Phil

I think that it's got to be that our brain is picking up on things that we aren't consciously aware of because I've run into the same kind of situations where my gut says I should do one thing, and then I rationalize it all the way. And sure enough, it comes out the way my gut encouraged me to go. The brain is so amazing in that way. I find it very fascinating

Oh I am a very lucky man.

I would even say honestly when I first thought of this, the first thought that came to my mind is the situation with my kids, mom and our kids. When I look at my timeline, a lot of my friends don't have the same experience as I do with their kids mother, and things really are bad between them and child support and custody, and all that stuff is what they complain and bicker about while probably spend more time with my kids
