Multiculturalism: Melting Pot vs Mosaic

article image placeholderMike Pompeo on multiculturalism.
No, there are stand alone buildings dedicated to these different cultures to celebrate, to remember, even once a year, there's an event where we can buy, quote, unquote passports. And there are pavilions across the city, and that's what they called them. You would go to these places and you would essentially be taking a step into that culture. You'd be experiencing dance, costumes, maybe henna tattoos. If you're looking at the India Pavilion, the different kinds of foods

Mike Pompeo stirred things up, when he tweeted his thoughts on multiculturalism.

I love the Mosiac concept.

You know, this made me think of the American dream and what it means to most people. The American dream is a raxt to riches story that you, no matter what color you are, war, race or Creed, with hard work, dedication and ingenuity. You can live the American dream. But with the melting pot, it is interesting how that's so automatic. And I've said that so many times myself when looking at areas of diverse culture

YES!! @Wuandurful

I mentioned this in another swell, but there are a series of TikTok videos right now where someone asks the question, when was the first time you realized how living in the US had traumatized you? And there are so many different stories, apart from gun violence, things like a woman, she acquired $100,000 in debt to get her undergrad. She was working three jobs and still not able to pay all of her bills. She moved to Ireland, and she's now working to get her Masters

More celebrations!!!

Like, what if we celebrate it every week? Every few weeks, we celebrate a different culture. What if we empowered artists and artisans and people in arts culture to share their gifts with the community? More what if we had more parades where it was multicultural praise? Really. At the end of the day, you could tell the difference between a culture and a society is how much they're celebrating versus how much they're fighting. Right. And we don't celebrate that much, right

Shifting a culture with gratitude & appreciation. πŸ™πŸ» @MysticScientist

But if we celebrated something different, say, each month, we can still celebrate all of those things, right? It doesn't have to be the same thing that we're celebrating each month. It could be a different culture. It could be Justin to shift the perspective of appreciating people. Yeah. I can't even imagine what a world like that would be, but I want to live in it

And people can show up however they want in a lot of ways. So I don't know. I just like being in that space gives me a lot of solace for dealing with all the junk that's going on. It's like, hey, there is that potential. So maybe we can get there. I don't know. But check this out. I think I would love to share this with you. This is one aspect of getting there. I feel there's a lot of money

(Okay, terrible wave/tsunami analogy. πŸ˜†πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ) @MysticScientist

I've been going through this journey myself for the last few years that mental illness is not such a terrible thing, because although it comes with hang ups and difficulties, frustrations, et cetera, there are positive sides to this that we can use as almost, quote, unquote superpowers. Right. And if we look at every individual from a childhood up to see where we thrive, what interests us and then say, okay, where would best fit?
