The complexity & nuance of logic.

When I hear someone talking about logic or dialectical conversation or analysis or critical thought or these sorts of things, as if there is some paragon of intelligence and they will result in the ultimate answer with a capital A. It just makes me roll my eyes. I can't help it. No, these are tools. They get us in a general vicinity of closer to understanding, but they don't offer the entire picture. Let's look at a couple of examples. A logic proof

Abstractions lead to further abstractions. #BestOf2022

I love that how we just kind of think that there's some kind of simple logic behind things and it's not always simple, but yet it should be, right? I don't know. There's like this torment of logically simply thinking it. But we're not taking into consideration all of the different learning processes and thought processes that one can go through in order to get to the same place or a different place. And I have to say that I also get to 13 the same way

And somehow I guess there's an assumption I have then that because there is so much complexity and nuance that we'll never get down to having all of the answers about everything. And that is exciting because it means there's always room for wonder and curiosity and exploration and discovery. And that's what makes life so enriching

The base for logic debate is only valid with an agreed upon common ground or there are no grounds for an equitable exchange....

You make some really interesting points. For starters, I don't know what vitriol and logic ever had to do with each other. If you look back classically, the whole art form of debating came down to comparing abstractions and besting the other in the most irrefutable argument. Right. Vitriol would not let you progress with a debate. There's just no way. And you make excellent points around the fact that these are all abstractions

And then we want to create the text so it's more human and it's this weird dichotomy. But I wonder if in all of that like that's where we get mixed up because when people say you're not being logical or not using critical thought, in my mind it's like you're expecting everyone to have the same knowledge

And I was just like, okay. And yet he was sitting in his superiority against all people who believe differently than him. And I don't know, I was just like, how strange is this? It's like we're in an alternate reality. Humans are so, so confusing

Logic itself is a relative term relating to specific associative and connective systems within a framework. Antithesis/thesis are 2D. The mind is not.

The divorce is quite old. Between the whole logic and feeling conversation, you can really blame Plato for that one. He kind of made it a mainstream where, in essence, reason is superior to emotion. Emotion is inferior because emotion are primitive. They are not favorable to normal or optimal functioning of the mind. And emotion should always be under the control of reason so that we can carry out our thoughts and our actions in coherent ways

We like to make little boxes for everything because we only understand small pieces of what it is we live. And the boxes are useful. I mean, these conversations are fun. It's fun to delve in and dive into different systems of logic, philosophy, spirituality, and it's just one of those exercises that still consist of mental activity. Does it have to do with you being a decent human being or maybe having a positive outlook on life? Probably not

Do you know, I was thinking is that it's probably very similar to I don't know if you've seen instead of they now represent autism and the different strengths and struggles on a sort of star like graph and then it's measured out from the center and so that the points on the star are not going to necessarily be the same all the way around. The summer shorter, some are longer, and so on. And essentially it's showing where your strengths are and where your struggles are
