Survivor: All for the sake of "entertainment" & money. ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฎ๐Ÿ˜ข

I am watching Survivor 44. I'm only 13 minutes in. And if you haven't seen it, it's the very first challenge of the season. One of the gentlemen, a black man named Bruce, he goes hard. He dives under this wooden structure and he hits his head really hard and he pulls himself back out. And it is quite clear that he's somewhat altered. He's a little frozen, seemingly disoriented. He's shaking his head. He's not quite with it

Follow up re Bruce.

For those interested, although I did not finish watching. According to Twitter, Bruce was found to have had a concussion and was later medevac. He has been invited to return on a future season

Probably you're trying to save face legality reasons, but yeah, I totally understand why you wouldn't want to partake in something like that. I know some other reality shows like that as well have came under fire with the particular types of courses, those obstacle courses they run where some of them can be very dangerous. And I believe another person had died due to some concussion like CTC scenario. Thanks for informing me on this. It's crazy to think that series has been around for 44 seasons

Because you can tell when there was no drama in a particular situation, but the producers stepped in and spoke to one of the contestants or another and then instigated something and then told them to go back to whatever the scenario is. And it's like it's really unnecessary. It's like they're causing emotional turmoil for people when it doesn't have to be that way. And you could still have good TV and not necessarily about the drama, but instead about good interactions, like beautiful moments

I know I wouldn't feel comfortable walking up someone else's stairs and going into their bedrooms and closets and bathrooms and things of that nature, even if it was part of my job and it was staged or not staged or I was informed to make it look like it was staged. So I get it. I've backed off a lot of that type of reality TV as well

Reality tv is fake hot garbage.

I don't watch that much reality TV because I enjoy my entertainment written by professionals. Here's the thing with reality TV. It's all fake and it's all scripted for the most part. I'm not saying there's not exceptions to the rule, but it's really, really fake. A lot of times, like when somebody's going to win money in a reality show or in even a game show, they're not winning the money. They're saying they're winning

I remember thinking the same thing about Teresa and the table. And when I've thought about it, because I've watched a few different ones as well. And I then begin to wonder, okay, how much is influenced? How much is performative? How much is potentially real? And then do we then compare these different shows based on what's most quote unquote convincing or most dramatic?

It's not to say that I'm trying to elevate reality TV over scripted because that is not my preference and I don't think that either. But I can have an appreciation for reality TV because of these other reasons. Not all, obviously, because there's a lot of reality TV out there and it's not like I watch a lot to begin with, but it adds a little spice on top of my regular viewing
