Some chains aren't meant to be broken. A curse in reverse

Do you have a chain that comes from a mother, father, grandmother, an elder, the guy up the street? I've always had pivotal people in my life, even when with the basketball, my man would come out and he would play with me. We were doing like 100 foul shots made before I even got on the bus. And he was a teacher. Ended up being a principal at one of the local schools

They didn't own the farm, but they worked. And so my grandmother, let's say my mother's side and my dad's side, they've always worked. Whether it was working the farm, like the tobacco fields, watching kids doing hair. My mother's mother was a bootlegger. Just keeping it real, but she kept some coins, right? We have a work ethic. We have a work ethic

I'm able to know what that feels like, and I do the reverse to my nieces and nephews, and it's been really important to them. Things they can't talk to their parents about or their grandparents, they talk to me about. And it's a gift that goes full circle. I get it. They get it. I get it. They get it. It's such a cycle, but it's something I want to pass on

Even some of the kids today that I see my kids are 23 and 20, even some of their friends who don't have a lot of money, they're walking around with an iPhone, and they're buying stuff, and they're looking on Instagram, and they're doing whatever they can to look and feel a certain way

But try to tell the truth, because I really don't want to be responsible for someone saying or someone's child saying, well, he's this, that, and the other thing, or so much wisdom this or that. It's ups and downs. But it's a shame that with all these new talks we got, we got talks about the regular sex talk. Then we got to talk about if you get pulled over by the police

You. I loved that you highlighted this very, very important fact, because you're right. We emphasize so much breaking chains, breaking cycles, and those things are extremely important. But why not pass down generational blessings to our family, to our children, and our children's children? And I'm sure all of us can look back at our family line and we can see positive things that our families pass down to us

Wherever you hear some banging and clanging and stuff, something's going on, that's where I'm at. And I really wore that like a badge of honor. And my kids are the same way. I mean, I got two steps. They're still my stepsons and my son, and one of them for real. For real. He's a genius. I mean, there's no two ways about it

It was like those big roll off ones, those big long ones, and you had to reach up and dump it in, depending on how high the truck was. Sometimes you had to put it in one hand, put a foot up, pull yourself up, dump it, and keep going. And that's all morning long. And then he would go to school. This is like 05:00 in the morning where he's working. Then he gets done and go to school

And the football players was like, yes, the balls. And they weren't going to do it. Everybody's Chuck B or something now, but for real, for real. It's part of our history, you know what I'm saying? It's in our family. I guess you could call it our spanglish or our broken English

It. So I guess I'm saying, like after you get done breaking the chains and you make it a real goal or a real issue with your family and you know what I mean, everybody's mentally doing better and that's not something that's going to haunt the children in the family into their adulthood, you know what I mean? Make sure you're still doing the change that you don't want to bring. Look, where I live, it's a mess
