Storylistening: Share With Me!

And walking into this conversation with a former coach of mine, I very much thought that the narrative was done after 20 years of marinating on my experience, I was certain that the interview was going to go a certain way and it didn't. And it ended up not only changing the story for the film, but it changed the story for my relationship with this person. And I guess the question here is, do you have an experience where you thought you knew how the story was going to end?

Turning this table if that’s ok? 🍿

So I'm really excited to kind of turn the tables on you right now, if that's okay. And ask sort of the first time you have to do a major pivot because something presented itself. And how did you feel about that? Did that trip you up, or were you like, yeah, I could do that, because that takes a certain mentality. And is that a natural mentality in you? Or did you learn how to be so responsive to the stimulus around you

#sxsw2021 #adaptive

And I started performing all over Chicago, and that's really what kicked off my singer songwriter career, which is funny because I did have the foundation of my parents being musicians. So I guess that was always kind of a possibility in the back of my mind, but one that I never really explored until I was forced to with scheduling conflicts. So that was the first big time that I had to be adaptive. But it's happened many times since, especially being a female athlete

Inspiration/ humans who move you

And I think based on what you've been doing as a musician and also an athlete, you're here at a good time because not only can you sort of ride these technological innovations to push forward your career, but you also can lift those who feel completely weighted down by their invisibility and their shame about some of the things that they want to do, but aren't encouraged to do. So. There's this really beautiful sort of synergistic time right now because there's no reason to slow down

But she's been just an absolute inspiration to me on a number of levels and kind of inspired me to look at both my football story and my music story and combine the two and speak more and kind of talk about the philosophy and the experience of being a female leader

What about you? Who’s on your inspiration roster?

What about you, Deborah? I'd love to hear some of the people who inspire you on a regular basis. I'm always looking to fill out my roster. I need more, more inspiration. It never hurts

In general, I think my life has always been one of inquiry. And when I catch people in a moment when they're in a thought and that moment of creation happens between us, I find that really inspiring. But if I have to pull out a person that has inspired me over the years, I'm going to pull out somebody who's not in any of my mediums of expression. And her name is Louise Bourgeois, and she died at 99 or something

See you around the river bend...errr...down the road!

I think it's really great. And I look forward to following you and hearing the conversations that you have with folks on the app and discovering people through that. So thank you, Deborah. I really appreciate it. And I'll see you around the, around the river, bend down the road, whatever phrase you might stick in there. Thanks again
