In Pursuit of Happiness...Really???

article image placeholderUploaded by @sagarbhosale
This pursuit of happiness is evident in our movies, social, interactive media platforms, online games, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. But is it really? So our average lifespan has increased, but has our average life enjoyment increased? This is what I feel because options have become abundant, but the choices have become so fluid

@sagarbhosale

I sometimes think that we have incorrectly linked happiness with entertainment, but that's not necessarily what entertainment is about, nor is that really happiness. I sort of think of happiness as, you know, that elusive star in the sky. You want to see it so badly and you're looking directly at it, but you can't quite make it out. But if you look up to the side, then in your periphery, you can see it clear as day it's there

@sagarbhosale @SeekingPlumb From Survival to Gluttony and Gratification

So we're getting a false opening hit, which is leading us to be unsatisfied, dissatisfied and completely addicted to more and more and more with no end to it. So we've come from a place in time where it was just survival to we were thriving and then we moved beyond thriving and now we're gluttons and it's harmful for us. Yes, there's more depression, there's more anxiety, there's much more mental health issues in the world

These are the comments that I get on the photos that I upload once in a while on Facebook or WhatsApp status or maybe Instagram status. These people, they end up asking these things and all I'm doing is I'm just wandering around India and I become confused. I used to as in earlier

@sagarbhosale Eye Movements

So when your eyes are moving left to right, scanning the environment as you walk, because it's how we have to negotiate, journey forward the path in front of us without risk, that is what causes the serotonin. So they've done studies with people with PTSD or people suffering from mental health issues, and they get them to do this exercise where they're moving their eyes left to right, and it has an effect on serotonin, much like the chewing thing that you're talking about

And then I started suddenly thinking, because my first choice of career was the Indian Army, I completed my paramilitary training. Even then, that is how I slowly, steadily thought about staying in the country, doing something, developing something at grassroots level, generating jobs. That was my concept behind becoming an entrepreneur

That time it makes sense. Even I watch TV. I also have fun. I also play. I also watch TV. I also watch TV, right? But I watch in a limit. That's why it doesn't harm. If you watch in a limit, it won't be bad for you. So I think technology is not so bad. And now I'm going to tell you after my technology time, I do all these stuff. These are my favorite stuff

They're educating you, they're not putting you only in school for literacy. So that is why I'm not blaming technology because how can you blame something which is not alive? It is just there I'm talking and I'm not even blaming because it's their personal choices. But what you're doing if you keep doing this, if you read and you become interactive with people around you. And you start sports and things like that. Your lateral thinking will improve

I think more stuff never was the answer to any of society's problems. More companies, more information, more access to the internet, more XYZ I Z. It's not about stuff. It never is. Because Dee, when you're talking about something like happiness, which is a feeling, you're going to have unreliable results. And to anchor a feeling to a reality of existence, you're never going to get the answers you want

And it is about these basic things that we need. And then there are abundance of things that we get used to. You must hear the first reply to this swell is by Georgie D and the seeking plum. They actually are capturing what we are discussing for this value. Then there was an average balance and then after that it went haywire. It straight away we became addicted. Okay, this is what we're talking about. You should actually check out one movie on Netflix

My 2 cents

And this makes me think way back when I was a kid, we sometimes go on these long train journeys during our vacations, either to my native place or some far off holy place or something. And I remember spending entire afternoons and evenings sitting in that sultry train compartment, staring out at the strange lands and fields and people passing by, not literally having a single thing to do. No entertainment, no books, no phone to fiddle with. And you know how it is, right?

I meet so many I's and IPS and it is just another career. Relax so you can see the peer pressure these kids are going through. I feel so unhappy for them, actually

It's like, you're going to go out, you need to be there in an instant, you're going to have pizza. The pizza needs to arrive right away. 30 minutes is too long to wait for them, right? So we've kind of pushed them into this kind of culture. Can't help it. It's a double edged sword. You can't live without technology. Neither can you deny that it is detrimental to not just us, to the next future generations as well

My brother in law is the least bothered about the exams and all. In fact, my sister ended up going to the principal and telling her, Ma'am, he will not do this activity. The additional stupid, literally stupid projects that they keep giving, like collecting fake notes so that the child understands the concept of money. How will the child understand the concept of money? And unless the child starts getting a pocket money and knows how to spend it, how to save it kind of income culture

So in the beginning it was quite difficult. It is not difficult, but a bit challenging, where you have to explain it to the child. Why and what is happening and what will it result in. But the end result is so beautiful. As of today's date, as I told, there's one more swellist who replied. I told Ramya also today. He plays very well. He knows how to play cricket at district level, county level, I guess, if you're from US

@sagarbhosale yes, the simpler things in life…

That was kind of many of the kind of philosophers and thinkers used to think that people will have a lot more time to just pursue arts and intellectual pursuits and not have to worry about food and putting food on the table and surviving. But that has not really happened. I think people are very busy with the daily stuff of life every day. And I think different. It's not just companies which are keeping us entertained and distracted

Thank you RHG, for wonderful reply and yes, it actually, you know, it has become necessary now idle, it is not supposed to be necessary because if it is necessary it becomes, you know, a trait and then and that has to come in the part of discipline. Happiness is not supposed to be a discipline but with the kind of current scenarios which are going on and on and everyone is just being funneled into or channelized into something or the other, happiness has become a regime now

And what I'm trying to say is trying to get happy in this scenario is just doing what I can personally to make things last, I guess to survive. That is the first thing and it makes me happy seeing my mother, Emilie considering doing something for the house if it's coming for me. That's what I mean. So yeah, to me it's like to make sure that I'm surviving in such a scenario is the best thing. But yeah, everyone is just different

But the fact is that social media is here to stay and it is something that we have to live with and it is a sign of very natural progression of technology which we choose to enjoy in bits and pieces. So we want that the parts of it that suit us should be there and the aspects of it that we view as undesirable should not be there
