The Hyderabad Heist - Author Sharmistha Shenoy in Conversation.

article image placeholderUploaded by @Ramya
Could you perhaps start off by giving us a sneak peek into the premise of your book The Hyderabadhist? Also, there was one question that I really wanted to ask you. When you're writing crime novels and thrillers, having a vivid imagination away with words and a compelling story to tell is not always enough. Sometimes you've got to do tons of research too. What is your research process generally like?

Hello Ramya. Thanks for the wonderful intro. Let me answer your first question first. That is how did I write the Hyderabad highest? Actually I have been writing a lot of fiction and I wanted to foray into the world of nonfiction. But not any nonfiction, only fiction that was intended genre of the crime trailer. This is because I have always written about crime trailers. So this is a familiar territory for me. And also I feel comfortable even reading crime triggers a lot

So these people, when they write a thriller detective story, you are always wondering like who is the murderer? It's basically pitching your brains against that of the author. And you're trying to play a game with the author and trying to find out well ahead who is the real murderer. So I look at murder mystery like a delicious puzzle rather than actually that it has a lot of blood and murders and violence, etc. Et cetera. So that's the path I have taken

So as they proceed through the adventure of the police, they empathize with them. When they follow wrong leads, they get disappointed along with the police team. When the police team gets disappointed when they think they are following a hot lead and it fizzles out and so on and so forth. And then they cheer. When the Hyderabad Bath police finally catches the thieves, they like true crime because of this reason. Thanks, Ramya, for giving me this opportunity to express my thoughts. Have a great day

Thank you so much, Sharmishtha, for your time. I have really enjoyed talking to you and getting to know your writing process a little bit more. And all those replies were literally sort of like a deep dive into writing crime fiction and of course, true crime as well, both of which are genres that I am very interested interested in, both as a writer and as a reader
