Tis the season for "teacher burnout"

It's impossible. And I lied. I was actually at school today. It's a Sunday. I went and I spent 4 hours there unpaid time trying to work through some of this checklist of things that I have to do now that I was just told I had to do last week. And I just don't know how I'm going to do it. I have to get through these additional things that I didn't even know about until the last few days

But for whatever reason, when it comes to teachers, instead of looking at it that way and finding additional roles or expanding the responsibilities into other roles, we heap on shame and guilt onto the teacher and say that they're not effective at their job, so we must replace them instead of recognizing that times are changing, responsibilities are changing. All of these things have to flow with it

So I never really got to fully prep for the school year because there's all the other things that go into it, and I never got to dedicate the time that I wanted to. For me, the most important thing is the experiences for the students. So a lot of the work that I ended up doing with the students were meaningful, but at the same time, I just never felt like I had the time to really give everything

If the society wants to keep blaming teachers and dumping more work on us and saying, this is what we signed up for and this is what we deserve, you're going to keep losing us. Schools are going to be shut down, kids are going to get farther behind, and we're going to keep going towards the Dystopia. Those who can will separate themselves from others, and those who can't lose to suffer. And that's really unfortunate, but that's where the future is going
