Swell Roundtable: Masks - the drama, fashion and utility of wearing them now and forever?

Welcome to another swell roundtable. Okay, the topic today is masks. We want to look at the fashion of masks, the utility of masks, the history of masks where masks live and breathe. Reeve pun intended in our society right now, I really wanted to put together an expert team to talk about masks from all different perspectives. We know that the doctors say about masks, and they're right. Masks will save our lives

Welcome Dean Weiner, Lennon Gabriel, Justine Seymour. Let’s take off our masks and get into it! #fashion #costumes #film #production

Let’s hold comments until we’ve had a few questions answered. Follow this 🙏

So looking forward to hearing the first round of questions, second round of questions, and then we're going to open it up so we can have a lively, swell conversation. Thanks

Hope you enjoy enjoy!💃🏻😷 I’d love to hear your thoughts

So, overall, when it comes to masks, I would say that the concept is ever evolving and we just need to evolve with it and be open to change and accept this new, slightly inconvenient way of life so that we can get to the other end. Thank you so much, guys

But let's have a little talk about the history of the mask. It was very much used for religious practices in the beginning, and then it went into theater. The Greek theater had amazing huge masks in other amphitheater, and there was actually like a megaphone sort of built into the mask that allowed their voice to project. They were very big and very heavy

I just wanted to end because I got cut off because five minutes wasn't enough for me because I'm a big talker. Obviously, I just wanted to also bring up the subject that masks are interrupting the human and connection between us. We're not terribly connected on the street as it is, but I happen to be one of those people that smile at people and say Hello

Where are the smiles? How can we smile with masks? What’s the new "smile"?

But do you want to show masks in Hollywood to show the real world, or is it a choice really curious about that. So let's keep this conversation going and riffing, and I just know that people are listening. We're just wondering the landscape of this conversation is so bumpy because there's politics involved. There's vanity involved. There's just people that are just saying, oh, that's not for me

If you have a cold or if you even feel a cold coming on. People wear masks. And I picked this up in China and we've been doing it here. And I think the stigma attached to masks and the fear of wearing masks or affecting our Second Amendment rights is preposterous, and it doesn't make any sense to me

How do we look less mean wearing a mask!!??

Is it just a simple sort of smiling with your eyes, or is it more like using masks that are just more friendly looking? And again, how is it going to show up on the TV and film world to model for us? Because we know how much we see what's on TV and film, and we model it in our own lives. Just. Dean, what are you seeing in that area, Dean? Thank you for your focus on the manufacturing aspect of that

I mean, the Islamic women have been doing it for a very long time, and they really dress up their eyes. And I do believe that a lot of the eyebrow fashions have come from that part of the world. I spent two months in Jordan a couple of years ago while I was working on Messiah and other eyebrows are just spectacular

Let’s keep this going - mask stories - what’s happening on your lives?

But I think that this conversation really gave it a little kind of what's the word? It lined it for me. It made it seem more palpable. It made it seem more possible for it to be something that could be statement and reflect more things than just the fact that I'm obeying the rules and keeping everyone I love safe. But it has a little more of a statement for me. So love to hear your thoughts on what you're feeling about this. Thanks
