So I'm really excited to talk to today's guest. This person is a creative force array of sunshine. Warm, intelligent, so deeply intelligent, and I'm so excited to talk to her. Please welcome Sarah Pear. And there's no telling where this conversation will go, but we'll start it off, as we always do, by asking, Sarah, what are you doing with your life?

Welcome Sara!!! #WhatAmIDoingWithMyLife #WithRo

Hi. Thank you so much for having me. And thank you for giving me such a super wonderful, so sweet introduction. Really touched me. It's really kind. I'm happy to be here. So to jump right into your question, I guess, what am I doing with my life? Honestly, great question. I ask myself that often, but I would say the bulk of my days is really taken up with art making

And I used to have this idea that the classic trope of, like, you have to be a tortured artist, or if I don't sleep, I'll feel really weird and then make crazy things, and then I really f***** my sleep schedule for a long time. Still do, but besides the point. Yeah

I love this critical thinking question. 🥰

So that's something that I had to realize, setting my boundaries and saying, okay, now it's time for me to do what I want to do for myself or goals that I want to meet and stick to those goals by being consistent and getting them done. That's something a lot I used to well, not very much, but still struggle with of being consistent because of my mental illness as well

Well, right now I'm a crochet artist and just like, a multimedia creative. So crochet is a form of fiber art similar to knitting, but unlike knitting, you only use one hook. And the way that I describe the appeal is that crochet is like it's sort of like 3D printing with yarn, and that you're, like, looping this yarn and pulling it through and slowly creating these structures out of what was essentially just like a piece of really nice string

The medium to me is so important. The fact that the result can be seen as art, clothing, home, accessory, whatever, that doesn't matter to me. To me, it's all art, and it only really becomes like work crochet or non artistic crochet

And crochet is so you. And I love the picture that you shared because it's so colorful, and I just love it. And I'd love to hear more about your interest in fashion, because I know that you said that the product is not, like, the main goal, and I'm with you with that. But if you're interested in fashion, I'd love to hear more, like, if you think you're heading in that direction, how are you going about exploring that?

Even now, my heart feels like full thinking about touching quilts, because quilting is something I'd really like to get into, but I do have this inner true notion that the fashion industry is not about community. Largely, I think street fashion is about community, and I think that there's a lot of black owned brands that are about community. But OT Couture, if you will, is not about giving back

What do you get out of doing a fashion masters is like, a time and place to work on a collection, and I just don't even operate by collections, even. I'm so moved by my mood. I don't know, I think there's still a level of informality that I have about my artistic practice that isn't great. Like, I'd love to maybe mentally take it a little more seriously

So I just really love that you're not only building these pieces and crocheting and building something out of a piece of string, but you're also doing it with others and with yourself. I think that's really beautiful. Yeah. It's. Welcome, Sara. I'm so happy to hear all about this. And it's you know, we haven't talked in a while, so it's nice to kind of get these updates and hear you talk about this in depth

And if you ever want me back, let me know because this is fun for me as well. And yeah, I so much appreciated your insight and the look into your world and your creative process as well. It was very interesting. I'd love to listen to one of these episodes where somebody interviews you

Things I Love To do

You. Hello. I love to write, draw, sing and play music. It keeps my mind occupied. It keeps me from thinking too hard and keeps me from worrying so much about the crazy things that are going on in the world that affect us. I'm trying to enjoy life. Sometimes I talk with my neighbors and family members more. While I don't have a job right now, I study my Bible and have hope in God. Thank you for asking the question
