OPEN MIC on Swell what does it mean to be "of this world"?

article image placeholderUploaded by @r.o
And that's why, as you can see in the image, it's not an open mic night, but an open mic night. Day, afternoon, morning, coffee, afternoon, biscuit, I don't know, whatever you do. So, yeah, let's try it out. It's an experiment. We're all doing this for the first time. So let's see. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but let's give it a shot of this world

Chime in with your music, poetry, prose, plays, articles, hypotheses, equations, philosophies, historical accounts, etc! #WithRo

Hey, I really like this idea. I'm thinking about this. I think there's the opposite of this, which kind of compels me to talk about what this is like. Not being of this world is where you feel disconnected from the roots and from the elements and feel like you're an alien and a visitor to this planet and disconnected from what it is and the things that make it go

PH. I love this. I don't I don't believe in coincidences. I believe that we are all connected by a divine chord. So I wrote in my journal today, April 2, I feel foreign in this world. I feel like an orphan. Like there's no place for me. I feel disconnected. I really want to find my tribe. This is just an awesome concept and I really believe that is about the collective

@r.o

Ro. I like that you made this an open, open mic, not limited to certain sorts of contributions. And I like the prompt as well, because often you hear it said, not of this world, and sort of looking at it from both of those sides of the coin, if you will. I can look at I'm born of this planet

What whatever I feel like is best. Super excited for this. Thank you for initiating it. You're awesome. You're amazing. Love it. Can't wait to participate. See you soon. Bye

But then when the director yells Cut, they go back to being themselves. Unless you're like a really extreme, method actor. You know, whatever. That's another story. So but it's such a rich question to be of the world. I think part of being of the world is to not be of the world. If you're fortunate enough to have the awareness and the sense to take a step back and to not get lost and caught up

@DBPardes @SeekingPlumb on being ‘not’ of this world

And they relate, I think, in a really lovely way because deborah also I mean, that's definitely why I think I thought of the prompt because not because I was feeling particularly of this world but because I was feeling disconnected and kind of imagining what it is to be to feel connected and to feel like I belong in the world. And where I find that and how sometimes it's just a flash of feeling like I am indeed of this world. So, yeah, definitely

Wow. That's awesome. I love when that happens. It makes me feel like, yeah, it's just such a perfect storm. I had to be sort of thinking about that. I had to decide to post today and not tomorrow. And you had to stumble upon this. We were just meant to cross paths at this exact intersection, so that's awesome. And I'm glad to hear that you feel like you've found your tribe a little bit

Yeah, I really do appreciate and love that perspective because it makes me think of really, the language of that phrase, of this world of meaning born from meaning, a part of meaning, an extension of I don't know. And do you want that or do you want to be an inhabitant in the world? And I don't know. I don't know why this is bringing me to this. It reminds me of this book that I read a long time ago

A poem! I’m nervous (customary open mic behavior)!

Okay, so I want to contribute a little poem, maybe to start off, I don't know, I kind of ran with the spirit of the open mic. And after posting this, I kind of left my phone and just sat at my desk with my notebook and the prompt of this world. And this is kind of what I wrote. I didn't edit it. I didn't do anything. It was kind of like a free, right?

Me. This is lovely. It's so real, so raw. I could see the apartment above the one below the one you're in the canvas walls. It's beautiful. Really nice work

Hey, Ro, thank you so much for sharing this poem with us once. Well, I really love the line, one day you're going to jump for fun. It just captured something so light hearted and effervescent and almost innocent in a way very pure hearted. And it just made me think about the scene and how fit so perfectly and with the visual that you craft it with your words. So thank you so much. Bye

But it's a way of existing in both places. I believe that we are evolving with the friction of the past versus the inspiration that we feel today and how we choose to propel ourselves into the future. We are working towards a more perfected vibration, each of us individually. And that perfected self will be what we create relative to the reality that we understand, relative to the world that I am of

I love this concept. And with this particular prompt, I feel like it's something that I might speak on a little bit now, but it's going to sit inside of me and I'm going to think about it, and I might have to come back later and then erase everything I said or expand it. I don't know. But it's interesting because what does it mean to be of this world?

I what you said really resonated with me and had me thinking that disconnecting is also a way of reconnecting, especially when you talk about looking for your tribe. How we sometimes have to disconnect from a world that is not really serving us so that we can create another world that does and be in and of that world, even if we're not from that world, if that makes sense

You. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your insights. I thought I was really wise, and I think thank you for introducing the term to me. I haven't quite heard a relative reality, but that makes so much sense. And also, I think, distills the essence of the question. So I just wanted to so thank you for sharing your wisdom and for introducing that term to me, which I hadn't heard before, but really feels like an answer to a question

Because we get focused on the career goals. We get focused on climbing the corporate ladder. We get focused on creating ways to make money, creating ways to give ourselves stability. And in the process, we forget about things like poetry, we forget about things like music and art, the things that actually bring us joy dance, right?

Grateful + playing a (rough) riff I wrote this morning

I love this. I just wanted to shout everyone out who's replied on this because I feel really moved by it. I feel really moved by hearing everybody's unique perspectives and the responses. And it's beautiful and it's organic and it's making me think so much

#OpenMic "of this world"

But my journey I'm taking currently looking at my paternal lineage through Kira Inca andean Cosmology says otherwise, says we're born with value and of this world would mean a sacred way of living, a sacred way of being involved with all of nature and everything human and wild and cosmic and that the energy that exists here runs through all of us
