#AskSwell | Who taught you how to be financially responsible?

article image placeholderUploaded by @rocio
Today I want to askswell who taught you how to be financially responsible? And I know that this will probably is going to bring up more questions maybe than answers or really more topics for us to dive into. But I'm curious about that starting point, that relationship of money beginning to develop. Who was present for that? And I don't know. Do the the ideas that they had, do you still hold them close? How has your relationship to money developed since then? I'm curious

I'm paying rent, having to buy my own food, pay for my own utilities. And so he sat down with me to help me learn how to create these kind of budgets so that I can manage that sort of thing. But when it comes to investments, saving money, credit, debt and things like that, no, I was never taught those things as a child, as a teen, or as a young adult

My parents, I mentioned that they're not financial experts, but I do think that they did something with me at a young age that was very smart and really helped me kind of form who I am today when it comes to money, both in terms of spending and saving and thinking towards my future. It was actually my second job. I was 16. I was actually working at Menchi's Frozen Yogurt, if you know that place. I was at one of their first stores

It's. Okay, so this subject I'm so glad that you brought this up, Ro. Okay, so just being completely transparent here. My parents did not teach me anything about finances. If anything, the only lesson that I learn was to be afraid of it, to always expect something bad to happen, to always, like, be super stingy with what I spent, because you never know when an unexpected expense is going to come up. My parents both have a very heavy lack mindset

You this. So much of this. I can relate to this in so many ways. So same thing. I grew up in a two parent household, and mostly my dad controlled and handled or mishandled all of the finances. Right? He just thought it was like a man's thing to do. And I also never sat down and explained anything financial. In fact, everything I always heard was always like, be prepared for the absolute worst
