Tha Ballad of the Harp Weaver by Edna St. Vincent Millay ~ 4/1/23

article image placeholderUploaded by @Renee_Slay
And the harp with a woman's head leaned against her shoulder, her thin fingers moving in the thin, tall strings were weave, weave, weaving wonderful things, many bright threads from where I couldn't see were running through the harp strings rapidly and gold threads whistling through my mother's hand? I saw the web grow and the pattern expand? She wove a child's jacket? And when it was done she laid it on the floor and wove another one?

But I loved it. I love the type of poetry that will make you sit and allow yourself to feel, because that's the whole point of art to be able to feel what others feel, to understand your fellow human beings because of what they have brought out of themselves in their artistic value. And to be able to hear the stories of history being spoken through the spoken word. So I thoroughly enjoyed this reading and I just want to thank you, my friend, for bringing it

But it touched me and moved me in ways, if you can imagine my 13 year old empath self caught up in the household that I was caught up in to find this peace just. It has remained everything to me, and I'm so glad that you took the time to listen to it. And everything you say to me, Mama, is everything I feel about you every time I see one of your poems or one of your posts. And I am so blessed to have you in my life

Oh, I literally had to take a deep breath after that one. That was beautiful. That was beautiful. I don't know this person's story. She was really poor and the poem came from personal experience, but I probably assumed that it would have and maybe a dream. That's just beautiful. It's beautiful. We think we have it so bad nowadays when we don't have much, but I know that it's nothing compared to people before us
